Hi everyone. This is my first post. I'm a grower in a state that it isn't 100% legal yet and am wondering how to go about becoming a professional grower and doing this full time for a living. Does anybody know how to start this process? I have 15+ years experience and have realized that growing marijuana is one of my favorite things to do and potentially the mostprofitable. Does anybody knOw where to start? I'm thinking of either moving To a state that it's already legal in or waiting fOr it to become fully legal where I live which could be very soon and I don't want to be left behind. Can any experienced professional gROwers help me out? Point me in the right direction? How did you get started? Thanks! Pp

Thanks for your response General Ackbar but its not a trap, its an honest question. I'm not a cop or whatever you are assuming, just a grower looking to go legal and not have to worry about watching my back for Johnny law all the time.If you are not going to lend any advice or help me out then please don't respond here. Thanks

I guess what I'm asking is: If you want to make a living growing legally, what organization would you need to get in contact with to get your license to do so? I know you can grow for patients with their cards if they sponsor you or something but if you wanted to grow enough to pay all the bills what are your options? Grow for a dispensary? The government or a state organization? I'm sure its on this site somewhere but I can't seen to find it.

Moving to a state where it is already legal wouldn't he very hard to do for me but even if I did who would I talk to that could hire me or help me out getting my legal license? Seems like a pretty simple question. Is there any licensed grower, that grows full time for a living, that can tell me how they got started or which organization they contacted to get started?

Lol as far as I know other than one university program sponsored by the government nobody's licensed by the government to grow and sell weed. The only other option is to open a collective or co-op legal by the state and make your money that way. The problem is, the government is coming in and siezing money from club owners for money they paid taxes on because the way they obtained the money isn't federally legal .

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. Before I move to a new state and start asking every hippie I see what to do I want to do some research and get some good info on this subject. What exactly its a co-op or a collective in this sense? I assume its a group of people who grow together or get together and...?

Well, I can only speak for California..but here its pretty much survival of the fittest. You shop your bud around to the dispensaries and if it is good it will sell..if not than you didnt make the cut and you need to find work doing something else. You of course need to be a legal medical marijuana patient to go in the dispensaries. The Norml website has all the information for different medical states.

Ok I work at a dispensary in Co. how did I get my job?
I was living on the east coast growing for most of my adult life. I moved to Co. at the age of 38 and restarted basically everything to try to become legal in my profession of choice. I did a couple home grows and made a journal of it in the colorado section of these forums while being an active member of the forums. I met some other local growers and through many talks and a bit of luck I was offered a job at one of the local dispensaries.

I make a WHOLE lot less then I did when I worked on the east coast but I dont have to look over my shoulder every day hoping that the police dont come and get me. They say if you love what you do you never work a day in your life and I feel that lucky right now with the job I have.

i understand the appeal of growing

but i don't understand the appeal from a financial perspective. Legal OR illegal, it's not a very lucrative business. A 6-month endevour for a few stacks? Yea ok, it's a good side-hustle, but that's about it

I dont get what youre trying to say. Why would growing as a full time job not be appealing if you can do it? I get paid to do what I love and hopefully in the long run I can make a solid life long career out of it, not just "a few stacks"

Its as legitimate a career as most people have in my mind.
