Growing a bush instead of a tower!

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Hey guys, new member here, really excited to meet you guys and be a part of this amazing community. I'm on my first grow, and I only have one plant (live and learn right). I started this seed 20 days ago and it looks like it's doin great, not sure of the genetics or strain, however it seems to be a short plant, (or I'm the one making it short) I topped it already and I'll include pics for you guys to see. It's a soil grow, started using general hydroponics 3 part flora series for nutes, (last watering 3 days ago) 250 watt led par 38 light 5000k on top of her, 24 inches high, 2 100 watt led lights 3000k on her sides. Is she too short for her age? No signs of stress or nute burn at all, and I raised my light a few more inches thinking she will reach for the light. Thoughts?

Oh, and she's on 18/6 lighting, small fan blowing on her, temp ranges roughly from 74-82 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity stays between 45-55%.

Topping results in short, bushy plants so its completely normal. Also, indicas are shorter and bushier than sativas so that should also be remembered. Is your strain indica or sativa?

Not sure man, my dad gave me the seed and said that it was afghan, not sure of the strain 100%, so hoping for the best!

I was more just experimenting with this plant before I got my hands on some good seed, to practice and make sure I don't screw up the good ones.

I was going to suggest using the hand test to get your lady the extra light she needs.

Pot plants tend to be about as heat sensitive as human hands. MJ guru Jorge Cervantes tells you to slide your hand to and fro from the light until you reach a spot where you can feel the heat but it is not painful, just noticeably warm. That is where your plant should reside. You want to get her as close to the bulb as possible without risking getting her too warm. That's the reason for the hand test. If it is too difficult to drop the light you can also turn over empty pots to be used under the active pot. Either way, get her closer to the bulb as lumens (light strength) is the most important factor in raising large tight buds and tops.

Remember the 25% rule for lighting -- move a plant from 3 feet to 6 feet from the bulb and you will lose 75% of the lumens. So stack them ladies under the bulb!

Thanks man, will do. I had originally had the light about 12 inches away the whole time until here recently. This is a pic of her like 10 days ago, and maybe the light being closer caused her growth spurt? Not sure. IMG_0175.JPG

I think the leaf yellowing at the top is from a slight overwater, although it seems that over the course of her life, she has always exhibited lime green to yellow new growth but then slowly changes back to lush green when the growth matures a little. Her soil ph is 6.7-7.0 and only give her nutrients every 3 waterings, and only at 1/4 of strength but I think in a few weeks she will be mature enough to handle a little more. Still only have a 250 watt led 5000k on top of her, 12 inches up, and two 100 watt bulbs I got at Walmart clearance for 5 bucks at 2700k spectrum on her sides.
