Growing by a Window, No Lights

So this might sound stupid, but I went to a friend´s house today and he plans to grow two Royal Automatic plants by his window. The window faces south to his garden which gets plenty of sunlight during the day, but he´s paranoid about cops and neighbors, and he does not want to invest in a grow room or closet because he is one big cheap bastard. The window lets in plenty of light, but no direct sunshine.

Would this set up work for him? I mean I see no problem for germination but I guess that vegetative growth needs way more light than that, don´t you think?

germination needs no light.. veg will require direct light and so will flowering..
I guess the plants will get direct light since no obstruction exists between the window and the pots; however, no direct exposure to sun light will be present. Will this affect the performance of the grow?

Could you grow tomatoes right there too, ya think? Nice juicy ones?

Cannabis needs many hours of full sun each day. It is not a houseplant with low light needs.
The performance of the grow would be very weak to horrible..

sorry.. ya'll need some lights

There are so many ways to grow marijuana inexpensively and stealthy, even if you don't produce the most satisfying product you would still be able to have your own. A window is just not enough, even if you were to grab a few house lights you could keep your plant alive. I have seen most ghetto rigs it is all about determination and experimentation. By the way I am super super medicated :P.

direct light means the plant is able to see the sun. at least 6 hours a day. more is better, but the rest can be shaded light

I've been trying to find this info for 3 days!! OK, what about DIRECT sun-light through a window? I have about 7 hours of direct sunlight. I only have one baby, it's been outside for about two months, but it's starting to smell and look obvious so I'd love to bring it inside BUT I can't set up a whole light room.... so is light through a window ok? I'd really love to start on the 12/12 soon... ?

do sunlight and a single 42watt cfl if u HAVE too
That indeed works. Weather around my area has been lousy about half of the time and I did not want to risk having diseases from excess water or humidity. So, I have been taking the plant inside during lousy days where only a couple of hours of full sunlight were available and then taking it outside during completely sunny days. The results are in my opinion ok, and in four more weeks I will harvest. See the picture, judge for yourself.
