Hello everyone, pleasure to make your acquaintance!
Since this is a new run I figured it would be a good idea to start a new journal and move it to the right section.
I'm still a noob so there won't be anything fancy going on here, expect a lot of fuck ups and "err, what's going on here" moments.
Maybe a bit of history...
I've grown a few times here and there, some autoflowers outside and I even did a micro grow in an old PC case, lots of fun that was, really got me into the hobby. The yields have been ever meager and I strive to get at least 50g... yeah, it's that bad. Anyway, I'm really hoping that this grow will see me with a nice amount of weed. come the end. I can say that its not just about the final numbers, although it would be nice to have a few jars packed of some fine arse cured weed. I grow for a hobby and enjoy all stages of the grow, most of the time it's a learning experience and I love setting goals and beating them (one day 100g, one day).
I've completed a semi-successful grow (with the help of some fine people on here) in this wardrobe- my first ever indoor grow under HID lights, but the yield, yeah you guessed it, was just under 25g.
Maybe a bit about the setup: simple ikea wardobe (gotta love that shop, give me 5mins from when I walk through the door and all I think about is "damn, that's a nice looking cabinet I could grow in". The dimensions are quite small, inconvenient at times I might add: 48x59x160cm, so that's 1,6x1,9x5,2ft (God bless google) for you guys on the other side of the pond (actually, do you give such lengths in inchs or feet? I wonder.)
The light isn't anything fancy or high tech, just a simple 250 watter imbedded in a cooltube that I just recently bought (I was pondering on whether or not I should buy a 400 watter, haha what an idiot I was). The bulb is a dual spectrum type thats gives off just about 33 000 lumens. I honestly can say that while it does its job, I might just buy a MH light and then switch to the dual spectrum when in flower (probably get better results then).
As of the fan specifications, I had a poxy 110m3/h or 60cfm one that has been in service from the beggining... you can guess if I had temperature problems. Just recently I decided to reach deeper into my pockets and so I ordered a spanking new 440m3/h or 250cfm one (what a jump for me that was, feel like a pro already). I was a bit dissapointed because I thought that the CT + fan would be able to keep the temps at bay and allow me to give up on any additional fans seeing as my grow space is limited as it is.
Alas, while it does keep the temps hovering at 30C/86F without any air movement below the glass itself, the DWC bucket (more on that later) was just absorbing all the heat and to be honest, whenever I think of root rot I shit a brick. So I just swallowed my dissapointment and ordered myself a teeny weeny usb fan, it just came in the mail mind you, so I'll pop out for it in a jiffy. I've never had ideal temperatures which I'm sure had a huge impact on my previous grows so I'm doing everything in my power to make this grow the closest to the ideal one.
Bla, bla, bla, bla, bla (nearly finished don't worry).
I've been a soil grower all my life, whether was dealing with tomatoes, basil or my favourite plant, cannabis, I prefered not to complicate things... until last run when I really fucked up the beggining of the grow which resulted in a extremly long vegetative period.
You see I've never had any luck with fast growth rates you guys keep getting, oh have I longed to open my cab everyday and see new foliage.
For the past six months I've been dreaming and talking about moving to DWC so eventually I did. Nothing fancy, just one bucket I bought from my dearest Ikea (about 18L) and a few airstones plus a 7.2l/min air pump.
It's been going extraordinary- for me that is- so far. The growth rate is amazing, I mean, I've heard stories and read journals about hydroponics, but to see it for myself damn. Never going back to soil again.
As for the plants themselves I've always had a soft spot for sativas. I'm a lazy fuck by nature so when I smoke some pure indicas (or even indica dominant strains for that matter) I get an instant couch lock and remorse floods me head to toe.
What I'm working with now is Blue Kush (the infamous OG Kush x Blueberry) from dinefarm. On my last run I got a dodgy seed so I'm just going to stick to the genetically superior and tried strains from now on.
The period in between my last grow and this one, I must of "wasted" about 7 amazing seeds trying to start them in rockwool. Damn I tried everything, but hey, that's a learning experience! After a month of failing I FINALLY saw that little taproot emerge from the bottom of the RW (cheers fishdeth for the help). How jolly was I when it happened, so I popped the RW into the system and about one and a half weeks later (that was a bit long) I saw my first root! (by the way, DWC does live up to it's name when it comes to root development, never have I anticipated such growth!)
So as of now she's growing with new growth happening everyday (huzzah!).
More nonesense to come later on, if you managed to read through this then I salute you and I hope this will be a good grow indeed.
Feel free to add any thoughts, criticism and welcome to my journal!
