growing room

(Forewarning: This is all going to sound veryy noobish)

This is the growing room that I will be using for my first time grow.. the light is one i found in my garage, and while there are no markings on it, i believe it to be about 400 watts. It also produces a significant amount of heat, which helps because the room is otherwise unheated.

The seedling, once germinated will be placed on top of the pink styrofoam.

Any pointers/constructive criticism at all would be appreciated.

If this is in the wrong forum, let me know.

I'd say about 4 feet tall, of course the box under the styrofoam can be removed when the plant starts to veg.. any info on the light I'm using? what might it be? I've heard that different types of lights are for different stages, although if it is a Metal Halide like i think, shouldnt it work for all stages so long as I keep it a fair distance from the plants, or should I use a florescent for the beginning stage?

thats funny i bought some of that same pink insolation stuff for my grow..some pointers...you are going to want to put the light directly above the plants, it looks like its in the corner. make sure to get a thermometer if the room is unheated ideally75-85 degrees. you will need some ventilation to replenish CO2 even if the room is the right temp. maybe a little more white on the walls, the brighter the better! good luck

hmm.. that could possibly be a hps, if so then should I switch it out for a florescent light until it flowers, or is it ok to use a hps light for the entire growing cycle. Like I said, I found this light in my garage, a friend left it here the last failed attempt at growing when we were but little kids.. now I don't talk to him anymore and I asked him if he wanted his light back and he didn't. Score me!

so the room has changed now, I now have 4 florescent bulbs hanging directly over the newly planted seedling, which was planted in miracle grow potting soil, which i've heard isnt the greatest if not down right bad for cannabis. Am I done for? It's been 2.5 days and still no visible growth.

You're not done for. Just don't give it any additional nutrients for a long while. Assuming the seedling survives, that is.

For future reference, use anything but Miracle Gro. There are plenty of good (and even organic) soils on the shelf right next to it in any respectable Home Depot or chain grocery store.

You'll also probably want to sprout more anyway, unless you want to be very dissappointed after putting all of that effort into a male.
