Six to eight full-size plants. A lot of people on this board seem to flower under 2 feet; in that case up to 16.

You could easily grow more with some supplemental floro/CFLs/LEDs or MH lighting(suggested anyway for additoinal 6500k spectrum). Plants thrive best with full (PAR) spectrum light.

Hortilux makes these bulbs called Super BLUE a HPS/MH 2 in 1. Full spectrum from a single HID bulb.

for medium sized plants, i would say you can grow up to 12 comfortably. i'm thinking of getting that Hortilux bulb as well.

Really does depend on your style of vegging, and flowering. Personally I would not do more than 8 plants under one 400w. That is however just my $0.02 (USD) : )

I grow 24 plants under my 400 watter. I veg them to 18-24" and then into flower. Using square pots seemed to really help with limited space.

Any reason why you only plan to only spray water? The roots won't get the benefit of full hydration. How do you plan to add nutes? If you are worried about water leakage indoors, put plastic trays under your pots and empty after watering.
