Growing weed is like....

Caring for fish & reptiles?

Hear me out on this. I literally JUST started reading about growing about 2 hours ago. (While feeling pretty gone, no less) So this may come off as completely insane. But I figured there has to be some fish geeks out there as much as I am.

I was reading about the basics of growing: lights, pH, propagation, et al., & it got me remembering that I've worked in pet stores for almost 10 years now. Then I thought about all of what I've read about growing weed & it doesn't seem too far off of caring for coral/saltwater tanks & reptiles. Monitoring the pH in the tank, making sure temp & humidity are exactly right for snake eggs, making sure the eggs aren't too close too the light, 12/12 fish timers among countless other things.

Am I crazy or is it at least a little similar. Someone out there has to be an animal geek like me, too.

Edit: Man, it seemed like I typed this forever. I'm still really baked.

I know exactly what you mean, man. I used to breed geckos, and I think a lot of my success was due to paying attention to things like the animal's natural conditions. Photoperiod, temperature, when it was overcast and when it was not. I was pretty anal, I checked a site the CIA maintained that had data on everything climate-wise for just about any country you could think of almost in real time. I first learned the characteristics of MH vs. HPS in trying to duplicate seasons in Southern Madagascar. With weed, though, it's all about enhancing it, what buttons you can push and what you need to leave alone. Much more malleable, but ultimately slave to the same rules. I consider every grow an experiment, I guess I'm still new enough that I don't have near the experience to feel really dialed in on anything. That's why this site is so cool, I learn something new every night.

Cheers.

I'm just really, really glad that that made sense to someone. I was talking to a friend I smoke with & he thought I was nuts for comparing the two. It sucks working with reptiles when it's overcast, btw.

And, now, I have to ask, what kind of geckos did you breed? :P

I grow organic and as a grower I can tell you left out some important things. YOUR TIME..Pruning, spraying for powder mildew and watching for fucking spider mites, watering, loving, transplanting, harvesting, trimming, drying and curing, AND FINALLY SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was easy, everyone would do it.. RESPECT goes out to all fellow growers out there in RIU land.. Face it... Without OUR patience, We couldn't serve you and yours..;-)

i have 50 gal of fish tank breeding discuss, and i checked the water level on my aquarium, using to water my plants. its like hitting 2 birds with one stone. got 1 more 50 gallons just for the water plant these plants are more tougher to stableize than any plants i can imagine, except maybe for the venus fly trap who can only survive in a colder climate region. got a 25 gallon pink toed tarantula, a 5 gallon scorpion. so yeah its pretty much the same

I've used my tank water the last 3 or so grows (organic) & they really seem to like it, however I don't like to stir up the water prior - too much raw nutrients there I think.
