Growing with animals...

my dog seems to itch like mad when I grow. After harvest she's fine but during the grow its no stop. She licks her self raw. Anyone else have this problem and other than stopping what did you do to fix the problem? I don't want to stop but I don't want my best bud in discomfort. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Is there anything you use for your grow that could cause this? Bug bombs? Maybe you get fertilizer on your hands and pet the dogs? Idk man I have always had dogs and never have an issue. They even hang out with me in the room while I'm tending.

Are you in your garden while your lights are on........? Is your best bud long hair or short hair ?Do you use any off the shelf pesticides or herbicides , fertilizers is your animal licking any moisture from your pots ,reservoirs, plants ,buckets......my animals do not enter my room under any circumstances that's just one of my rules . Never heard of this problem before.......I'm sure if you look close enough you'll find the reason. Good luck to you!

I do go in while my lights are on, I never thought that would be an issue. I have a bucket that I use for draining maybe that's causing issues. My dog is a beagle min pin. Short hair. I don't use pesticides.

Your dog probably has an allergy to the plants. My dog was allergic to EVERYTHING including human dander. So much so that I spent a couple grand on a specialist to get him pretty much cured. He would get rashes, lick, scratch, bite, you name it. I would take your buddy to the vet during an outbreak. Tell them what's going on and just omit the fact that you think your plants are causing it. I would bet a lot that the vet will prescribe you a low dose of prednisone which is a steroid. It will clear him up really fast. It isn't recommended to use it long term though because with long term use it can cause health issues. I found when using prednisone that I could use even less than the vet prescribed and it would keep the allergies at bay. It's sort of like a pain medicine...it's used as needed so it's ok to skip days, use less, etc...
Your vet will also probably suggest trying over the counter Benadryl which is completely safe for dogs. Do some research about dosage before you give your dog some because obviously the weight of your dog is less than a human so he will need an adjusted dose. Benadryl didn't work for my dog probably because his allergies were so severe but I've definitely heard of it working for dogs before. Good luck brother!!

I don't grow yet but do have a dog that suffers badly with allergies. Have you considered that when you're growing, you might pay less attention to or spend less time with your dog? Mine is very sensitive and becomes anxious if left alone too much. This manifests as extreme scratching. She draws blood from her neck, belly, chest etc. if left to her own devices. We endeavour to ensure she doesn't spend much time alone as much as we can.

In our case the solution has been a combination of things. Lots of attention, affection and exercise (she gets walked 3 times a day, including a good hour plus with me at night). My wife swears by the homeopathy that I just go along with (how much harm can water do?), but I'm very sceptical. I think feeding her "Royal Canin Hypoallergenic" has helped a lot, I noticed a difference when we switched. We also had a large hypoallergenic bed made for her (pure cotton and hypoallergenic baby bed stuffing) and we give her a weekly bath with a special shampoo containing oats, aloe vera and camomile. Also, we only use very basic cleaning products in our home, none of that perfumed stuff, only a little bleach, alcohol and water pretty much and keep the place clean.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I'm no expert, but when we started out, vets all seemed to prescribe corticoid based products which are extremely damaging if used too often or for long periods as you say. Not to mention, my dog was very messed up (drowsy and lethargic the whole time) when taking it, that stuff is really strong and no-one likes seeing their dogs like that. The only reason we put so much into keeping her allergy free is to keep her away from that shit. No doubt, it really does work in fixing symptoms short term, but if there's an allergy, it will come back.

my dog gets plenty of excercise but she does get separation anxiety. i really don't think time spent with her is the issue. It really come up when I start up and doesn't leave until I stop.

Have you gone to a vet for an exam? It cod just be coincidence the dog is itchy during the grows. Age of the dog can play a role , sometimes they will develop food allergies so even the same stuff they've been eating for years will start to bother them. Could be any number of things tho. Hope your dog will be ok too man :)
