Growing with Car / 12VDC HID Lights

looks awesome man! keep it up! would be nice to see what one complete cycle under those lights will do. i know the buds that came off the ones i had in the cups were dense as hell and absolutely delectable when dry.

one thing i notice is your running those bulbs vertical. you may want to look at the junction on the bulb where the glass meets the plastic. i noticed when i ran mine vertical, i had a problem with that plastic melting eventually. just something to look out for. i solved that issue by mounting them horizontally with some pvc tube, a T connector, and a saw.

Hey, I checked and the plastic is not melting and is not very hot. Once I'm done with this one, I will mount the lights like you did with some PVC pipe.
The plant is 21.5" tall today, I have switched the lights to a 12/12 cycle. Fingers crossed haha, will post updates in a week or so

First bud starting to form! About 10 days into the flowering cycle and the plant grew another 8 inches. I realized that the humidity in this closet hovers around 20% so I'm sure that impacted the growth during the veg cycle.

Awesome results man. I noticed on mine as long as I kept lighting at a closish distance the buds stayed super dense. More likely a strain trait as opposed to lighting levels but could be wrong.

Just under 5 weeks into flowering. The buds are getting bigger and the plant is still looking great
Last week, I found a few of what looked like the beginning of male flowers forming, they looked like little seeds/pods attached to the stems? I've removed them and haven't seen any since. I guess this plant might be a hermie, will wait and see.

looks pretty good man! i know that someone is probably going to fly outta left field after i say this and say im all wrong and blah blah, but i will suggest pulling those big fan leaves off. keep the top 3 or 4 bigger ones, but the larger ones on the lower sections need to go. ull be much happier with the end result.

^^^ Yeah don't do this.
You have any proof it doesn't work or you just another follower that reads shit and just goes spouting it in other treads? I can saaume your the latter of the two because anyone who has truely tried defoliation in proper technique would never say to another grower not to. Jump off that band wagon whenever you grow a few brain cells of your own and come back to let us know how it feels to freely think for yourself for a change.

Yes, you know better than millions of years of plant evolution.

They have been growing those useless leaves for eons until you came along and told them the mistakes they were making

Some of the bottom fans leaves have started to turn yellow and die off. So I think I will let nature take its course for this one

I see you haven't taken into account high winds in nature, wild animals brushing against and tearing up plants, the constant movement of the forests. Give it a rest kid. That argument has been tried before and failed before. Again, go finish reading some defoliation thread so you can spout the shit here like you know what your talking about. And again, what is to say nature is the "perfect environment"?! Last I checked the point of growing indoors is to make a more perfect environment than nature can provide...

WTF are you suggesting champ? That plants do better when they get trampled by animals?

I also like how you say how i've been "PROVEN WRONG" (IN TESTS!!) yet supply literally zero grounding for your comment.

On a most basic and unscientific level, anyone who has completed a grow will remember seeing the nutrients stored in fan leaves get literally sucked back in to the plant to fuel flower production.

Please explain to me how it can be beneficial to cut off bits that a plant has decided to grow, when they are fully capable of shedding them and re-absorbing the nutrients at will.

And if you say "because they block the light" I am going to LOL my fucking tits off.

So you wanna talk science huh... Ok ... Show me anywhere where science says that the plant stores energy in leaves. Care for studies? Ok
http://www.cmg.colostate.edu/gardennotes/134.html

Again pal. They are there for the plant to produce energy through the absorption of light and NUTRIENT TRANSFERS FROM THE ROOTS TO THE LEAVES FOR CONVERSION.

fucking people!

excuse me... ill re write that for those who cant break it down since some one is a pea brain... nutrients are one part of energy to plants according to both science, myself, and you.... ok.. glad we have that straight... your quote:

"On a most basic and unscientific level, anyone who has completed a grow will remember seeing the nutrients stored in fan leaves get literally sucked back in to the plant to fuel flower production. "

see where im going with this? you specifically stated that the plant stores its nutrients in the leaves and also stated that science said so.. well myself and the first thing to show up on google from an actual scientific study and not a bunch of b.s. on forums proves that your statement is completely false.

so please, i am not trying to sound like a dick, this will be my last post in this thread on this matter, i will ask that you at least attempt a proper defoliation. there is a difference between these hack job idiots on these forums stripping off any leave larger than a half dollar, and the people that selectively pick off the leaves necessary to ensure other sections grow. yes, about 95% of the light shining on a leaf will pass through it to the lower sections, but people also fail to compensate for many other factors. the plants will tell you what they like, and i promise, selective trimming will be rewarded within 3 days. your ladies will open up like you have never before seen.

just worth mentioning again, yes plants have been developing and adapting to the earth as we know it for millions of years, but even nature has her downfalls. that is the point of the indoor environment we set up for these ladies. it is to best replicate the good things of mother nature (light breezes, the constant exchanges of air for CO2 replenishment in the atmosphere, most importantly -the SUN), but mother nature has her many downfalls that these ladies probably have survival instincts in their genetics ( hermying out in attempt to self pollinate and produce seed to carry on its genetic code). there is too much human beings dont know about what happened over those millions of years to just automatically say that the way things are growing right now is the best way possible... by mention of evolving of plants i am to assume that you like me do not believe in religion. if you believe we all evolved, then we arnt done, neither is the earth, the environment in which we live, and everything else on the planet.... so again... what is to say that the environment we live in now is the one best suited? they have only evolved to survive.

Uh dude, WTF are you talking about?

1. If you think nutrients and energy are the same thing, I really don't know what to say to you... How you could think that *I* agreed with you here, I am even more puzzled.

2. You seriously must be high if you read the word "unscientific" and think it means "scientific"

3. You readily admit that what we percieve as shade is not the same for a plant ("95% of light passes through", and though that is a questionable statistic, I won't split hairs) and claim there are "other factors" which people fail to take into account...Once again failing to supply even conjecture to back up or justify your claims (What factors???).

4. You originally suggested someone "remove all but the top 4 fan leaves" but have now backed off to advocating "selective trimming". A very different thing.

if your confused please read above again. all information you have requested is there you just choose to read it through your bias. again i have said that is the last of that discussion i will have here and that is it. you want to continue this, PM me.
