Guidance much appreciated

Hello growers I am a noob to the scene here and am looking for some advice. I have very little growing experience with any plants let alone cannabis but I have done lots and I mean LOTS of reasearch.

Let me fill u in on my situation.

I have about 14 weeks to pull a harvest off from seed so I have chose some fast finishing indicas. Afghan kush and purple kush.

Afghan is fem purple kush is not and was bought cheap from a unreliable source so only time will tell the true genetics but he claimed his seeds where from jordan of the islands in bc.

Now onto my grow room. Space isn't really an issue compared to time.

I have a well vented grow tent 4.5ftx4.5ftx7ft with a 600w mh light going on my babies. So far all my seeds have sprouted and look healthy.

With that said I'm debating between fiming/topping/main lining

Seeds should be grown for 3-4 months (maturity) before putting into flower and another 8 weeks minimum in flower. I've heard of 45 day flowering strains but I've also heard they are much better at the 8-9 week flowering. If you had clones I'd say 14 weeks is plenty to pull off a crop.

I'd also find a HPS for flowering and ditch the MH. Use a t-5 for veg if you can get one.
Agree that T-5's are excellent for veg, less electrical cost and less heat than HID
Dr. Jekyll

We are considering buying a MH bulb as most people speak well of them for vegging, what do you not like about them?

edit: found your post on this subject, very valid points you make

OP- With a 600w you can avoid any trimming like I did on my first grow. No trimming means you won't lose a week or two waiting for plants to bounce back. Here is my schedule under a 400w with 4 plants in 3 gal buckets yielding 2.5 oz per plant dry weight. PM if you have more questions and Good Luck!

1 week sprout
3 weeks 18/6
8 weeks 12/12
12 weeks

Personally I wouldn't try topping, FIMing or cropping on a first grow.
Apart from the time issue (valid point mentioned above) you'll have enough on your plate just keeping the environment nice and the nutes at optimum levels.

Being well read/researched is the battle half won (so well done)
but the other half is practical experience
So keep it as simple as possible for your first crop.

The unreliable seed thing is not good.
Just one hermaphrodite can fertilize your entire crop
Or some weird SHEMALE that looks female but is MALE.

Things like this are the reason that growers pay serious amounts for proven and stable genetics.

Slightest doubt about a plants gender - OUT
Either isolate it - if that is an option
Or eradicate it, if you lack the space to quarantine the questionable plant.

Gambling on it could pay off.....
OR NOT.

Good luck
hope you'll document the grow....?
(Preferably with pictures).

Thanks for the helpful post! I was getting rather worried I wouldn't have enough time for my plants to recover if I tried some advanced growing methods. I really liked the idea of main lining so I might give that a shot with 1 plant and let the rest grow out without any trimming

I will be documenting and over the next couple months I'd like to build a stealth cab to keep a mother plant or 2.

Actual already started a journal :)

Yeild and taste arnt really important to me this go around I'm just interested in learning.

On the other hand, it sounds like he is only deling with a couple of plants. if he is a newb he will likely be checking the plants everyday and more likely every few hours (it sure seems to takes a long time to grow when you visit the girls so frequently), but this also means he'll likely notice balls before they pop.

I guess it all depends how watchful he is.
Just my nickels worth.

So sexing will be important and is something I have never done so when the time comes I may post some pics just to get verification. Also I was thinking most yeild enhancing tequniques seem to cause stress which I'm trying to avoid because of my tight time schedule. What do u guys think of a scrog? From what I've heard they cause little stress.

With limited lighting or space, scrogs can be a benefit. I ran one on my last grow and felt it did not improve my results.

i personally like Uncle Ben's 4 Main colas. Wait until 5th true node, then cut back to 2nd true node. But like you said time is of the essence. You'd be likely adding a week.. but if your going to veg for 3 weeks, its probably possible.

Im going to be trying this on 1 plant just to see how results compare to just letting them grow.
