Guitarist Discussion Thread

Figured I'd start a thread for discussing anything guitar. Being a guitarist for 15 years I like to talk about it. Feel free to start any kind of topic and/or debate. Whether it be about other musicians or yourself. Share your influences, favorite styles, etc.

I guess I can start of by saying I was influenced a lot by the Metal genre. Dimebag Darrell was the reason I picked up a guitar. The first time I heard Pantera I realized what I was missing in my life......A GUITAR!!! After that- the music took over my life: Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Anthrax, White Zombie, Down,....and on and on.

Ahh reminiscing, this takes me back to the good old days. I got my first guitar on my 14th bday. Fender Squier and little 10 watt amp. I was influenced to start playing by my guitar and bass playing friends, who I was in a band with as the singer (cant sing for shit now) Back then my influences were more RHCP, Nirvana, Linkin Park, and Bloodhound gang. Good times back then.

Lately i've been drawing most of my influence from smooth punky ska elements such as from Sublime, The Supervillains, ect. and also heavier stuff like Slipknot and Rage Against the Machine.

I'll usually throw some acoustic stuff and Foo Fighters-like song structures into the mix. I like to try to grasp as much as I can.

LOL. I can't stand Dave Grohl. Foo Fighter are overrated in my book. He should have stuck with the drums. I just realized I never seen him play a solo.
