this isn't me trying to be funny, just pointing out that pretty soon all the people who intend to shoot themselves will have...as long as those guns are collected at the scene, that's a large number taken out of circulation each year, and fewer people inclined to suicide...of course, fixing our political system and getting some common sense gun laws in place would probably lower the number of people committing suicide each year, as well...

More voters support assault weapons ban over arming citizens to reduce violence: poll
More U.S. voters support banning assault weapons over arming citizens to reduce gun violence, according to a Fox News poll released on Thursday.
While 45 percent of those surveyed said they would encourage more citizens to carry guns to defend against attackers, 61 percent said they favored banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons.
Huge majorities in the poll also supported a wide variety of gun safety measures, including 87 percent who said they backed requiring background checks for all gun purchases.
Another 81 percent supported improving enforcement of gun laws and raising the legal minimum age to buy guns to 21, the poll found.
Eight in 10 also said that mental health checks should be required for all gun buyers and that police should temporarily be able to take guns away from people who have been shown to be a danger to themselves or others.
However, despite widespread support for such measures, only 43 percent said stricter gun control laws would make the country safer, while one-quarter said it would make the U.S. less safe, the poll found.
Renewed discussion about gun safety laws comes as the U.S. continues to reel from almost daily mass shootings. There have been 172 mass shootings so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
The Fox News poll was conducted April 21-24 with 1,004 registered voters and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The republicans are on the wrong side of history for guns and abortion, they are two issues that are helping to drive the normally apathetic youth vote, last election had the highest youth turn out ever I believe.See, this would never have been with Fox of old.

A guy walks into my house, assault gun at the ready.
Even when I was in top form, there is no way I could have gotten my arm into battery in time to make a difference. Game over.

What they need to do is have some organized turn in centers so that anyone who is a criminal or mentally ill can turn in their firearms. I don't know why they don't do that. Here in Chicago we deal with daily uncontested crime and shootings at all hours and it seems to be getting worse. We have a foid card and some of the most strictest laws in the country against guns. Not sure why these laws are not working.

Come to Chicago, Harvey, Robbins, Ford heights, blue island, Chicago heights, and the tons of other areas on the south that are rampant crime infested places. I am in those areas daily as a service plumber and i can tell you, its getting way worse.
So of the major ways this stuff gets fixed is for parents to start raising kids and being invoved in their lives in those areas, among other things. Just housing and sending money and banning and regulating won't fix it, the humans need to fix it and u til they do things will keep going down and down
