had to get my hands dirty

i'm driving down the road the other day. 2 pounds on the seat next to me. i shift out of second going into third and it won't go, then with some wiggling around i get it back into second and parked somewhat blocking a driveway and in front of a fire hydrant. dang it. dude who owned the business it landed in front of immediately came out. he was hella cool. said he'd watch my truck until a tow truck came. i grabbed my backpack and got a ride home. tow truck came a few hours later. dude backed up and parked me right in my spot all the way in the back. i had my tranny out the next morning.

i skipped the sentence in the manual where it says to disconnect the gear box, drop it, then disconnect the tranny. i did it all at once. thing weighs 500 pounds, at least. i got it all out by myself though. you just have to be smarter than the job. :bigjoint:bongsmilie

It was all broken FDD. No wonder the gears weren't working...:roll:
You might have missed the 'detatch from tranny', but I bet you didn't drop any tools.

Yeah gear throw out fork looks broken ... when you opened did you get much broken bits, or more fillings.? Always a bitch with truck transfer case.. plus laying on back makes it harder.. changed a tranny once on road side with cop yelling to move car... I told him we'd have it done in 45 min.. faster then the fucking tow truck would arrive... so he sat in car to make sure we didn't get hit... luck... a tranny job before xmas... naturally.. usually a gift buster...

Gift buster ,,He has/had money trees in his yard ,, He grows dead presidents ..

The parts are not expensive ,Its the labor that kills the pocketbook, since he is doing it himself he will save LOTS of money , its good to have those skills , If it was an Average Joe , then I could see the job breaking the bank.. BUT THIS IS FDD ...............ENUFF said

My guess as for the cost of the complete job with him doing it including the tow

$175.00 - $225.00

Power Wagons are awesome trucks ..
Looks like your hands are full,
Good luck I hope it works out for ya ..
Aligning clutch bearing without proper tool is a pain, plus those blind splines always fight when driveway jobs are involved.. thats why I stuck to doing brake, front end jobs for friends..then if I encountered jammed or other issues that need torches or impact tools I'd refuse.. When I worked at GM dealer we see driveway mechanics bring their parts to us... in boxes....... I broke a bolt/stripped thread...

I guess it would also be a good time to put a new clutch , pressure plate and throwout bearings too,, Hayes Is a good brand

A must while you're there ...change linkage bushings, washers and cotter pins (lock washers)..etc too... Hell even rear main,transfer/diff seals seeing they're the cheapest parts next to bolts, bushing kits..

haha damn man. that is risky as fuck driving around with pounds in an unreliable car ;p
my car is very reliable, sh*t happens.

i was on my way back to the club. i had just left. there were 10 other vendors ahead of me. dude said "can you come back in 20 mins"? i left, went down the road, turned around and was on my way back when this happened. i had to get back to the club or i was gonna miss out. so i called my wife and she smashed over to me in record time. we made it back to the club in the allowed 20 mins. dude says "sorry, we got all we needed".

so after dropping all 12oo pounds of that on the ground at once i go back and reread the paragraph in the manual. it says to disconnect the gear box from the tranny. so i did. after i got it out. lol :blsmoke:
