As the title says folks, came back to my two ladies yesterday in Day 55 of 60 of Flower,

The street was stinking where the ducting leads out too, so I had to pull the plug on the extractor, carbon filter….

Now my room stinks for the moment, but my question is as follows;

I can bear the smell as its only on my room, So can I wait until harvest then invest in a new carbon filter??????:confused: I have for three fans circulating the air into the grow

or

Should I get another filter and replace asap in case there isn't enough air exchange on the ladies or some other issue I haven't thought of???:confused:

I reckon I should be harvesting in the next 7-8 days…

I would ask why your carbon filter is not working, maybe it just needs fresh active charcoal
Dr. Jekyll

My turning it off you are no longer get a fresh air supply, your fan may circulate but won't bring in fresh air.

Dr J,

Yeah fark knows why its not, it was a cheapo off flea bay,… so there might be a problem,

Its on its first grow so unlikely to need fresh charcoal I would of thought,

I have read elsewhere that maybe the fan is pulling too much and so by reducing the speed it may be more effective,

i have a controller so will give that a go tonight…...

Mr H,

Yeah thats the worry,no freshness, would this be detrimental with only a week to go???????????

Have you tried Onagel? I think you could get the 1qt size with the jellys deals inside for around $20 +/- I've actually not used it for a few months but what I do is take the lid completely off and put a coffee filter over it to avoid getting dust particles in it, Ona will neutralize your smell, some folks say if you put it in the grow it'll affect the smell of you plants, but my nose can not detect anything from my plants other than dankness. You should be able to run the Ona and your exhaust but test that out before you go ant leave your house for a day.

get a rheostat and slow that byatch down. Also drop humidity in there to allow carbon to work better

Nothing personal man but this is not a good solution unless your fan came with one built it (some higher end ones do). The only reason I say this because using a speed controller has been proven to reduce the life of your fan. This is such an issue that often when you see folks selling used fans they'll include in the listing that a speed controller was never used on the fan.

do not skimp on carbon filters. get like a phresh filter or can filter or something imo. they will work and last longer than some of these cheapos coming with the fan combos.

nothing personal man but i've seen a 8 inch fan running @ around half speed for over three years......it is a cheap chinese fan too. Exactly how friggin long do you expect them to last????

I love how everyone here is an expert @ everything. even though they haven't tried it themselves :roll:

and btw that fan is still running

edit: also have a 6 inch fan running @ around 75% for close to two years.....it still works fine as well
also cheap chinese. Guess I'm just lucky ;)

Be careful with those fabric sheets. I had a buddy ruin a round with them. All the bud ended up smelling/tasting like the sheets. Trust me it was nothing you, or anybody for that matter, wanted to smoke.

A properly maintaned electric motor should last a Lifetime at least

Running a fan/motor at reduced speed can be harmfull but not always it depends on how the fan is set, type of motor ect.

Got ona gel but then I don't want it close to the girls as the bugs would surely attract the scent from the ona gel…

I currently have a tub downstairs to make sure obvious sniff are gotten down stairs….

I had a look at my fan's guide and as mine isn't the timer version they say the fan is happy with a controller, whacked it down to 50% but I could still smell outside,

30% and now I can't get any obvious whiffs outside…. boom.. and it shit loads quieter from my bedroom… Nice..

rep to both of ye… i would of never thought of this .. Peace…
