i'll say this. i know 2 women who got tattoos as soon as they were legal without realizing that as they matured their ideas about what's acceptable or artistic would also change. one of these women is 30 now and has many visible tattoos that can't be covered with everyday garments and she's really kicking herself in the ass now. she was at a dark point in her life and the tats she got at the time reflected it, but now that she's in a different place spirit and maturity-wise, she really doesn't like some of the work that was done (the work itself is very skilled, though). also she had a couple kids and put on some weight and then lost it, so now some of the work looks kind of melted lol, particularly on her arms and hip. imagine when she's 45...
moral of the story: women under 21 should not ink themselves elaborately unless they are 100% certain of where their life will take them. to assume you will feel exactly the same about something when you're in your 30's as when you are a rebellious post-adolescent spitfire is a major mistake if you ask me.

i think that tatoos do not interfere with gaining employment now a days. they are so mainstream that i would be willing to be that the person interviewing you has one. its almost a guarantee

In some parts of the country yes but like I mentioned earlier, I'm in a religion ran state and city and tattoos are highly frowned upon. Even wear house workers have to keep covered up. It's ridiculous

personally, I would like to get something small. nothing too fancy, just small and well done.
im seriously trying to make her see that it wouldnt work in the future, but she tells me i think too far ahead. that jobs dont care about that anymore.
it doesnt help that for us, most of our friends have several tattoos.
My best friend has one huge tattoo of cheetah spots all over her shoulders and going up into her neck.

I think something going from the edge of her collarbone over the top of her shoulder to half way down her bicep would be nice. It's a nice line. And can be covered with short sleeves if need be. I personally don't give a fuck about employers having an issue. If you prove yourself a good enough candidate in interview it won't matter. The amount of people who said they had preconceptions because of my guaged ears and dress, but swiftly changed their minds during interview. If you get rejected on first impressions alone, you need to work harder to win them over and trust me, they will remember and be impressed by it.
I think some scrollwork would be lovely gracing a ladies' shoulder like that. I'd have offered to design it but I need to do an avatar first and looks like she already knows what she wants. To be honest I'm not sure it's a design that will age well with her, but at least it's less likely to sag than on her stomach or something.

The type of career you are going for will allow that kind of appearance. But, it will definitely inhibit her ability when she is stacked up against someone of the same caliber in, say, the financial industry.

Your appearance is everything. Equal opportunity has nothing to do with tats. If I don't like your looks I'm not hiring you and tats make me think twice. I'm talking women, not men.

I suppose so- the area you are looking to work in will influence the mindset and conventions of employers... they would be more used to that kind of thing and be inspired by creativity and independence. I was just ecstatic the other day to be at the Victoria and Albert Museum (South Kensington, realm of the elite upper class) and seeing a huge hug covered with tattoos from head to toe, facial piercings and plugs stretched about 3 times the size of mine. The rich people did give him a funny look and turn their noses up at first, but once they heard him speak politely, they broke into a bog smile and a few started chatting about his tattoos.
It's different everywhere though... and what your tattoo depicts is a major factor. Outwardly provocative or offensive imagery might not be a good idea if you spend time interacting with clients and investors rather than in your own little cubicle.

KMK came over last night. we bar-b-qued chicken and i did some rework on his arm. got it to look a little better, but i think we still have a ways to go. he was very pleased. i myself am very critical of my work and feel we can make it look even better. not that it looks bad now. i meant to take some before and after pics, but i didn't.
