Happy Frog vs Ocean Forest for germinated seeds

So I have seen a bunch of threads about this topic, but it was also like 5+ years ago. I was wondering if anything has been updated/ if people have switched to something else, or which they prefer, HF or OF. I hear happy frog is good, but I also hear ocean Forrest is good to. What do you think?

I hear ffof is "too hot", but I've never had a problem. OF sticks it out longer, but hasn't been hot enough to burn my shit.
Been using both this year, leftover OF from last year (unused) and fresh HF.

I've been using FFOF for roughly a decade now. I have NEVER had it be too hot or harm my babies in any way. Happy Frog is good too, but I've just had better overall results just using FFOF straight up.

This is my experience too but only for 4 years.

OF alone was better than mixed with happy frog for me too.

I do add 25% large perlite and break up any clumps real good and re mix.

Ahhhh, I forgot to mention that. I add perlite too a lot of the time (but not always) -- right around 10%. It really does seem to help the roots.

I use HF to start the seedlings but one week before flip I put them in 3 gal pots and put them into Michigan made mix M3 soil for flower and love it ... Last during flower and no need to add anything I let them do there thing .. U can add perlite but I didn’t on this round since I saw plenty of perlite in there already

I have not tried the m3 soil. Potter’s gold was very good. But thats more on ocean forests level of nutrients.

So do you think mixing some perlite with the fox farm products would be a good start to get everything going?
I agree with the others. I've never had a problem starting a seedling with OF or HF either.
The one reason we can grow with it is probably because we have our grow dialed in.
If you have a bad environment like high temps, low humidity and/or have the light to close you may run into problems with OF with a seedling, this is where something like light warrior may have been a better choice for someone who does not have there grow dialed in.
Just saying, if you go with OF and have problems try HF. if you try HF and have problems try light warrior.

I also add 10% perlite when using OF or HF.
Good Luck!

Yes happy frog has very little perlite OF has a little more but still needs it ... Just remember the more perlite u use it will dry faster which will help the plants out .. Plants need oxygen just as much as they need water to survive and thrive ....
