Hard time getting seed to pop out soil

This as been happening a few times lately and i dont know why. I successfully germinate the seed and put it in the soil. And then a few days later the seed never pops out and i find it shriveled up in the soil.

Is is the ocean forest w/ perlite to hot?
Is it over or under watering?

Ive had successful grows in the past but recently i only have a 50% success rate getting that sucker to pop out of the soil.

Any suggestions/advice/criticism is welcomed. Try to help a fellow grower out.

i get 90% success rate doing this i put distilled water in a cup then drop the seed in the cup and put it somewhere dark for 24 hours. after that you pre-soak your soil very good. then poke a half inch hole drop the seed in.lighlty pack it in. you wont have to water again until after the seed sprouts. just make sure to keep spraying the top of the soil everyday as it dries out.

I've tried several different ways germinating seeds. My favorite method now is to just soak seeds in distilled water for about 6 to12 hours, to soften the shell. afterward just plant directly into soil. No chance of damaging the tap root.

Thanks for the replies. I went searching for the seed, moved some soil out of the way and it appears like its going to pop out the soil. Im not out of danger have to keep a close eye on her. I think the next time im going to use some regular soil in the middle of the ocean forest. i like that idea

It may be the handling of it getting into the soil. Its real delicate and a pain in the ass. Put it where god intended it to start and keep it moist and warm and you'll be in business. 50/50 Peat Moss and Vermiculite mix with a little dolomite lime is perfect for seedling starting as it has no nutrition. They don't need food for a while after they sprout, they have backups in the cotyledons.

The longer you soak the seeds, the faster they will surface. As not to exceed 3 days... a seed with a 4cm taproot will show a lot sooner than if you just soak them for a few hours. I understand that you don't want to damage your germinated seed, but I prefer to have mine sprouted within a few days. I'm kind of sloppy when I water, so I tend to wash away myy seeds if they take to long to take hold... Its up to you though.

i just put mine in fox farm happy frog 1/4 in deep.i also use humidity dome ,once i have the seed in 1/4 in deep in the frog ,water it till it comes out the bottom of the container /wet the top of the dome stick it under some cfl's about in away ,for 24/7.then just mist spray the tops and wait for them top pop threw dirt.once they are threw keep moist light about 2 in from top of plants .when roots come out the bottom of planter just transplant.
