HARVEST QUESTION

Just curious what everyone does.. How do you prefer to harvest? What’s your process? do trim your leaves before you let your plant dry or do you leave them on and spend the time trimming the unwanted parts off? Just curious...

It depends on your drying conditions. It's really dry here, so I have a humidifier set at 50 in a closet that I dry in. I like to trim before I dry it because I think it's a lot easier and the finished product looks a little more professional. But if I don't have time I just hang em until I'm ready. It's just harder to trim them when they're dry I think. But if it is really dry where you are you might want to trim after drying.

Temps are reasonable where i live. I mean i live in the desert BUT temp and humidity is almost perfect in the house/grow room. I was planning on trimming before. But was hesitant and didn’t know if it was really recommended. Plus do i still save the trims/leaves that i clip off before letting it dry?

Oh ya, I save all the trim and dry it separate. I just throw the trim in a paper bag and stick it in the closet with the rest. The trim I got last time was still really potent, and when you vape it after a cure it's not bad at all. Or you could use it for edibles, but mine was decent for vaping, so that's what happened to it. Probably about 6 ozs of it over the last 4 months. Now that's gone and everybody here gets nugs now. Although I have been vaping the nugs the whole time since I'm the one who grew it. Haha.

What I do is to cut the whole plant, remove fan leaves and scraggly sugar and hang in the shower. My temps maintain in the 70's and the RH(in the bathroom) stays at 65%. Usually takes them about 5 days to let me section them up enough to dry a bit more in brown paper bags. Usually a few days and then onto jarring and curing.

Ya paper bags come in real handy. I make sure to get a bunch at the store before I'm gonna harvest. I have a rack, but bags make a lot of sense sometimes.

Nice. Looks like I gotta make my own vape. I love getting carts and smoking on the go.

Oh ok. What happens if you hang dry and than put in jars instead of putting in paper bag and then jars?

I bought a SSV (Silver Surfer Vaporizer) about 7 years ago. It's a dektop vaporizer, and I just leave it on all the time so it's ready when I am. A lot better on the lungs than smoking.

You can do that too if they're dry enough. I buy little hygrometers off eBay for like $1 a piece to make it easier. I also use Boveda moisture control packs since my humidity is so low here.

I chopped right at root, whole plant hung upside down no trimming anything.
I also suggest 48 hours in dark before harvest.
Slowwwwww dry is what you want or it will smell like hay and be harsh.
Need humidity levels constant and if u have no way to raise humidity consider using paper bag(s) oer buds to slow dry down, once it dries out adding moisture won't help.
Once a small stem breaks when bending time to trim then into glass airtight jar and daily removal to ensure no mold forms with a bodeva in jar when closed.

that is just basic no humidity levels etc are included.

Hey man, I used to work in a washington licensed grow and we trimmed and dried a lot. We found that it is easier to trim while you take them down because the leaves are still stiff and easy to access. It makes them easier to spot and lets you cut them with more accuracy.

As far as drying and curing goes we found that the lower the leaf to bud ratio (that is, the more leaves you remove) the better the smell after curing. It seemed to be the leaves that gave that grassy smell, and within the same lot of the same clones, trimmers who took the time to remove every leaf ended up with uh-maze-ing smelling bud after cure. Trimmers who were lazy and left even large sugar leaves on ended up with grass with a hint of dank, even though the plants were identical.

After working there I don't screw around with popcorn bud. I like big colas with as few leaves as possible so trimming takes less time.

Thank you everyone for your response to my post. I looked at my plants this morning and started noticing a few trichomes that were amber on a couple different spots on the plant. I think were almost close.
