harvest time, when to start

Well I vegged my white widows for 2 months and put them into flowering. From the minute i switched the lights to 12/12 until tody it has been 62 days. I read some people start counting when they switch the lights and others start when they see flowers. I have been looking at the trichomes and they are all milky and a few amber here and there. thinking of sarting the dark period before harvest or maybe wait another week.

the amber trichs you see are the thc thats degrading into cbd(or cbn, can't recall off hand)

it sounds like you're getting really close, usually people harvest when about half are amber and half are still a lighter colour, harvesting with more clear trichs allows for a more up high, and more amber generally is more the couchlock effect people seek.. there's really no set date, just depends what you dig for a high

really depends on personal preference as well. i would harvest a bit now and maybe wait a little longer to get a wider spectrum of the high available at different times.

yeah that sounds ideal to harvest a little at a time. Does it matter the pistols are still white on alot of the bud sites

just means you'll lose a little yield from where your chopping.

i like to do it this way though, that way 1 plant can give me various highs/stones

Hmm, so do you guys keep a rough estimate based on days. Im getting conflicting veiws as to when to start counting

you should just follow the colour of the trichomes. i would give plain water this week, then harvest. try to harvest when your soil is dry, it makes it easyer drying the buds after.

well I took my plants out and really inspected the trichomes. about 25 % are amber, most of the pistils are white. So im just going to harvest and gave them a nice amount of water. I now just read your post and the soil is pretty wet. Can I still harvest with wet soil or wait?

you can, but i would wait a day or 2, so the drying will be faster, and the weed will get a bit stronger ;)

Dude thcsexy stop giving people bad advice. Im gonna flame you one of these times..

Dude dont wait... Your buds will be halfway dry in those 2 days and your gonna degrade more of your trichs if you wait. Just harvest and hang its that simple check every day for mold. After buds feel dry and stems lightly snap start putting into jars and cure away.

KISS

how is what he said bad advice, it was an opinion.

in your mind degradation might be a bad thing, but i like some strains to be couchlockers.

chopping when you've just watered is bad advice imho.

Well say what you want, but lettting the soil dry out to harvest a plant.. Seriously thats stupid. I said that because I have been through like 3 or 4 threads within the last 10 minutes where he gave not good advice IMO. Call it what you want. But I personally wouldnt wait to harvest a plant cause I just watered. lols Wow Im done have fun, but in the end who has more post's and more rep. Which could mean nothing or could mean everything. Take it as you want to but im out!

i want to say few things, this is my opinion only, based on what i belive, expirienced, and read.
first, i want to make it clear, i never said it is important to harvest when the soil is dry, just mentioned that the drying can be faster. sure, if you water your plant, and its potency is degrading, it is much better to harvest than wait for the soil to dry!
about the time of harvest, many people wait untill they get 50% amber trichomes, never thought or heard the plant potency degrade before that,
and please, MRGreen, if you have a reson to understand his plant's potency is degrading, i would like to hear and learn from it.

well i harvested 2 of the plants, the others can go longer. keeping the drying area at 40% humidty and temps are in the 70's. I would post a pic but I am a little paranoid

What growers like you do is try to be cannabis plant alchemists. You pick the wrong strains for your taste and then try to transform them into what you want by creating a fake couch-lock by weakening the level of THC, thus reducing the 'head high' part and making the 'low end,' the couch-lock seem more intense than it is, and relying on the only mildly psychoactive CBN that causes a fuzzy head, disorientation, confusion and sleepiness when the thing to do would be pick the right strains, ones that you could harvest at peak potency AND still have the couch-lock you want. But so many growers are members of 'the flavor of the month club' and believe that the latest release is always the greatest release, and some think that a few famous name strains are the only way to go, but what they give when harvested at the peak time does not give the grower/toker what they want, so they try to bend and twist and shape and form what they get rather than going with the plant's genetics when they are at their peak.

The capitate-stalked glandular trichome changes color as it matures. Newly formed and immature glands are clear, glands reaching optimum THC production are cloudy or milky and amber trichomes have already passed their peak. By looking at the trichomes you can also determine the best time to harvest your plants. When most trichomes have gone cloudy and a few amber ones have appeared, the plant is at its peak.

CANNABINOL (CBN)

Cannabinol is the primary degradation product of THC and increases in concentration with plant age. The concentration of this product in the bud is heavily dependent on the time of harvest. Harvesting the bud at a late stage also means that the concentration of CBN in relation to THC will be higher when compared to the peak of THC production.

CBN is only mildly psychoactive and can cause "fuzzy head", drowsiness, disorientation and sleepiness in the smoker, properties that can be considered unpleasant in nature compared to the clear high of the THC.
