Harvesting and going out of town for a week!! OH NO!!

Hey folks, I have to go out of town soon and I'm about to harvest.

The timing is kind of perfect in that I can harvest the day before I leave, but I can't really tend to it while I'm gone.

So I'm trying to setup a mostly automated harvest box for whilst I'm gone.

I'm thinking I need at least 1 good exhaust fan and maybe 1 more fan in there circulating air, right?

I know if I seal my box w/out fans it will all mold.. *gulp*

I know if my grow light comes on, it will dry out the dead plant/buds. So I will unplug my timer+growlights when I harvest anyways.

Should my box be sealed up with the 1 fan inside and 1 exhaust fan? Or should it be partly open just to help it ventilate better (I have no intake fan just some small air leaks here and there).

I realize I should remove my pot+soil from the box in case it still has moisture in it.

I plan to get one of those Febreze Carbon fan/filter things to help increase airflow inside and also to scrub the odor as it may begin to smell after a few days.

Any other precautions I can take so I don't come home to either too-dried-out bud or else molded bud? :(

I'm really freakin out about this....

why don't you hang them and air dry them for a week?(like a dark cool closet or something) A week is perfect for a good dry... and when you get back you can pop them in the jars and start curing

if you build a box and something goes wrong over the week and you cant check up on it, then there goes all your herb.... nothing can go wrong if you hang dry them!

i dont know about fabreeze filters, but id imagine it would make the bud smell like fabreeze.

i think hanging in a dry area for a week is perfect, a fan blowing would help and a filter would be good. but i dont advise the fabreeze

the same thing is going to happen to me with my harvest. I cut down then I'm out of town the next day for a whole week. It sucks b/c this is my first harvest and I can't keep an eye on it. I was going to make a ventilated box as well with one air purifier/fan in it and the stems tied up to twine running across the top of the box hanging down. that way it will be cool, dry, dark and pretty much the same as air drying but better disguised. Do you guys think this will work?

Yeah, I should clarify, I'm hanging the stalks/stems with the buds still on them upside down in my grow box, just basically turning off the light and adding one more fan (the febreeze trueair which is just a fan + carbon filter).

That is essentially it and it will be left like that unattended for 7 days straight..

The box is mostly sealed though. My closet would also be mostly sealed, no?

So should I leave the box door wide open, cracked, or closed?

What about some newspaper or wood on the bottom to absorb some of the moisture (in case the fans don't do a sufficient job)??

When I am back (7 days) I will put them in jars and begin curing, like you said.

This is my plan, sound good?

sounds good to me, i would definitely leave the door cracked though! you want plenty of air circulation when air drying
Yeah I was kind of thinking this too.

This is my first gro, btw.

And I already did some sampling and left some leaves to dry in a sealed container. In like 3 days they were moldy. Oops. Plastic container was also discarded. :)

Haven't sampled in a few days though - and won't for another 1 day. I can't wait and I hope the 36hours of darkness before cutting (tomorrow night) helps it some too!
