Thanks for ask the help riu. I think as a newb I was just REALLY looking for signs my plants were done! I like the head/energy high and my wife only smokes right before bed. I will probably harvest all the strains at the same time and just judge which plants give what affect.

u really dont need to flush, the terrible bud ppl get is usually from messing up the last stage... they grow it perfectly and screw up the dry and cure...

I have heard good and bad about about flushing I personally do it. But like was said be careful on your cure and don't try to rush it. Many a dank assed bud has ended up at mids quality by messing up the cure.

Trichs don't lie, the hairs do. I've seen hairs on some strains that never turn orange. I also see hairs that turn orange when half the trichs are still clear.
wow.

with all of the strains i grow, and often i have 10 mother plants at a time, and i switch out those strains regularly for the past 6 years and i've never, ever seen that happen. I've heard peropel regurgitate the bullshit. do you know what that means? It's when you read something on line, think it sounds good, and then regurgitate it yourself. Believing it is safe to do so. Unbelievable how one guuy can make a comment on the web, evena complete lie, and if it isn't challenged it is allowed to be echoed by other people all over the web. like copycat bullshit.

checking trich's is bullshit. look at the plants, calyxes swell up, hairs turn brown... plant looks done. job done.

Answer is right within this post. Although checking the trich's isn't all bullshit if you really know what you're looking for then it's ok. But only a good 5% of people on this site would know what they're after.. The rest just want to get high.

Look on my albums I have a pic of my first grow that continualy sprouted new white hairs even after the originals had changed color and receded. They were still coming out when my girls swelled up, I actually let them get a little over ripe not a bad couch lock like feeling but definatly not a get up and do something high. They were sativas.

Seems like Jorge Cervantes is a pretty smart dude on growing. He said to look at the trichs so I believe that for sure.

This is my first crop, but I have plants that their hairs died at week 5. They are still visually growing bigger and the trichs are just now turning all milky on the trichs.

If the clear to milky white to amber deal is correct it's probably all about finding what you like personally. We chopped 2 small branches last night. End of week 7. I want to experiment and try to get a good feel for all the steps. See if I prefer my head spinning or my butt stuck to the chair.

I plan to harvest most at week 9 and then let some go to week 12. I'll have a nice range of trich development to sample!!!

At the end of the day that is all it comes down to is personal preference. You will find what is right for you only by trying out things. I learned more from the mistakes I made when trying new things good luck.

While the pistils of most strains will change color and recede by the time a plant is ripe that is not always the case. Some strains will still have all white or mostly white pistils when fully ripe. Matanuska Tundra is an example of a strain where most to all pistils will still be fully white and not receding when the plants are fully ripe.

When it comes to when to harvest, place more stock in trichome color than pistil color.

CANNABINOL (CBN)

Cannabinol is the primary degradation product of THC and increases in concentration with plant age. The concentration of this product in the bud is heavily dependent on the time of harvest. Harvesting the bud at a late stage also means that the concentration of CBN in relation to THC will be higher when compared to the peak of THC production. It is only mildly psychoactive and can cause "fuzzy head", drowsiness, disorientation and sleepiness in the smoker, properties that can be considered unpleasant in nature compared to the clear high of the THC.

But by all means, decide when to harvest based on what you are the most comfortable with.
Thanks for this, this is incredibly useful. Thanks and + rep Bricktop.

When I was 18, i was in B.C. and my brothers girlfriend gave me a little piece of bud her dad grew, i'm not sure of the strain, but the hairs were Bright yellow, and the leaf, bright green. The high was amazing. I look at all the weed i buy now with my 100x microscope and its always the same story, dark red hair, and 50% amber trics and mostly crumbled in on itself. Well past its prime. Right now i have 1 Pure Kush plant still mostly bright yellow hairs, some starting to mature, but 95% Trichs are super cloudy and they have been so for the last 10 days. I'm going to harvest Saturday at day 58 wether the hairs have turned or not. CBN is garbage and if you want couchlock, i suggest looking for a stronger CBD, or CBC content in your buds.

I realize this post is super old. But for any new growers here who happen to come along and read these. Please don't listen to that age old bullshit of "checking the trichs". I really never understood how on earth that became the popular way of checking to see if your plant is mature and ready for harvest. Leave it up to the internet to spread misinformation like a firestorm. AMBER trichomes are degraded THC, which in turn becomes CBN (NOT CBD). CBN is responsible for nausea and anxiety, so its not really an indicator you want to use in order to check maturity of plants.

A mature cannabis plant will ALWAYS look mature, when its ready. Simple enough, ive included 2 pictures. First one is not quite ready but very close, hair's have not receded and calyxes have not swollen. Second picture, do not note color of hairs or anything like that. Simply notice that the hairs have receded back into the plant, and the calyxes are swollen. The flower looks a little fuller, denser. mature-pant-recognizing.png mature-bud-marijuana-plant.jpg

If amber trichs are degraded thc, isn't it still useful to check the trichs for mostly cloudy? Im not claiming to know the better method. I'm just trying to learn how to be the best judge come harvest time

I'm not saying don't use it in correlation if you choose. Problem each plant does different things. I've had some that were definitely mature but had almost no amber and maybe 40% were cloudy, the rest clear. New trichs are constantly forming afterall. But one irrefutable sign they are ready is when those calyxes have swollen and the hairs have receeded back into the flowers.

I hear ya. This year will be my first harvest so I want try my best to know when to chop. It seems to be a common theme for questions about growing pot; it varies by strain and read the plant. Appreciate your input

trust me, just watch it. You're going to get anxious and keep telling yourself it's ready. But stay strong and patient. Keep watching her, and when she's truly ready. You will know it.
