Has anyone tried a billage pump for a water pump

I have 5 60gph billage pumps in good working order. I was wondering if it could be hooked up as a sprayer for a DWC system or if anyone see a problem with that. They're a lot smaller than a fountain water pump. Any opinions appreciated.

Nobody has any opinion on using a billage pump for a water pump? I'm think it could be hooked up to a 12 volt charger like a computer case fan. Just wondering if 60 GPH is enough and will it last? Anyone used one for there DWC system or tried using one for a watering wand to water there plants?

Doesn't work! I tried that exact same thing not two weeks ago. Fried the transformer in about three hours. So I put in another xfmr with a slightly higher milliamps per hour rating. Fried that one in three hours also.

Then I tried a modified sump pump with a dimmer switch installed. Ran better, stronger, LOUDER, but HOTTER. Fried my roots.... seriously... like... steamed them to death. Almost could have made some kind of Asian dish from them.

best word of advice; Get a pump designed to run continuously. I saw some at pets mart, like 350 GPH for 20$. Pond fountain pumps. I imagine they're designed to run for a while. Magnetic drive as well; less elect. used.

Forgot to mention that most bilge pumps are designed for 13volt dc, switched. Also supposed to have a 2amp fuse to break the circuit. Probably why it fried my xfmrs. But it would more than likely pop your fuses every few hours if that was indeed the problem.

Thanks for the reply ralamzull. I got 5 of these things and they're like brand new. I was hoping I could find a use for them in some sort of grow.

The only thing I could think of was either an ebb and flow system on a multi-timer, or for occasional water circulation.

I use a small pump in my 55gal drum to pump up pre-nuted, ph'd, declored water into my smaller water buckets. I have it wired to a switch that I throw on for a few mins at a time. They might work for something like that.

Just find something to use them for that doesn't require CONSTANT supply.
