Has anyone tried the GrowElf ebb & gro-like bucket system?

this is the growelf in all of its glory. love it, because it works!

sorry for the miss communication, i was try to get across that i replaced all my cap brains with growelf. in the future i will buy their complete system white buckets or not. sorry for that. on another note i guess i stand up for growelf because when cap failed they didnt come to my rescue! but a growelf local rep got out of bed to give me a controller that night. cap is hard to get in contact with at all. i also like that the shit is made here in the states, with care to what is put out to the public. not just in the wallet. as you can see that my site was the back drop for thier web page, they thought that was a good way to rep their product. i was happy to help after they went out of there way for me.

regardless, you have a pretty cool looking set up. im going to try 3 ebb and flow systems as well. with a fourth for veg. i would like 24 - 30 per site. see if i can get a harvest every three weeks with a perpetual schedule if i can get the flower times dialed to a 9 week basis. well see.

I like the control box. Is that made specially for GrowElf or is that available elsewhere too? Not the entire bucket with the control box and floats, just the timer portion.....

not sure i think they design build everything themselves. i have asked if they can use the timer on other buckets, thinking i could replace the cap one and put theirs in place, but it was the wiring that they said they had to do because of the warrenty. they are in my friends list on my profile. mark is the contact guy. i think there is a contact us on the bottom of their web page growelf.com. i will tell mark at growelf that people have questions, and maybe he can answer them on here? so i would except him to be very proactive as he has been with me.

Researchkitty --- I'm glad you like our controller box. We manufacture the controller bucket as a stand-alone product that can be installed into a wide variety of existing ebb & flow systems. Because the float valves, pump power cords, system power cord, and inner-workings are all installed prior to shipping, we aren't able to sell just the control box. Our GrowElf controller bucket sells for $315 on our website www.growelf.com.

We have a product currently in research and development where you would be able to cut the float-valve-wires coming out of your current controller bucket, install our water resistant wire connectors, install our controller box on your bucket, and plug everything in. One of the challenges is designing a system that works with two, three, four, or five floats. It's a ways out though.

now i have put my money where my mouth is. WHITE buckets in place, waiting for their mothers

I'm definitely going with the GrowElf system. I really appreciate everyone's feedback. I am somewhat concerned about algae growth in the white buckets but I guess I could always sue the manufacturer if that happens. Right? I'm kidding. It's great that the manufacturer is right here in Colorado!

I do have a 1/2" hole-saw so I could get some of the 5 gallon orange Home Depot buckets and use those in addition to the 2 gallon buckets that come with the system. I'll grow the same strain from the same mother in every bucket, veg for 6-8 weeks and see if there is a yield difference between them.

There isnt a yield difference between 2 gallon buckets and home depot 5 gallon buckets. The HD 5g's just require more hydroton, more water, more nutrient solution to feed the plant the same size. I've done bucket comparisons, as long as they are at least 1.5-2 gallons each they can grow to be a 6 foot tall plant with no issues. This is indoors only, outdoors YMMV.

The bucket systems are my favorite because you don't have algae growth like you do on a tray system (because the nutrients are exposed to light as the tray floods.

The only thing I'd watch for is make sure the brain bucket has an overflow float-switch in it.

Not all brain buckets have that 4th float. They just have the 3rd float which shuts off the reservoir pump. With the 4th float, it triggers the RETURN pump so if for some reason you have a stuck cutoff switch, your return pump turns on and counters the reservoir pump.
