So Im keen to do a little of my own breeding. But not sure if I have wrapped my head around it fully. Have I got the right idea:
Take strain A (parent 1 - P1) and cross with strain B (parent 2 - P2) resulting in F1's, which are a AB hybrid. The resulting F1's would show a 1:2:1 ratio, meaning that if I grew out 4 plants, one would favour P1, two would be a 50/50 of P1 and P2, and one would favour P2...statistically anyways.
Grow out a bunch of the F1's and select the plants with the desired characteristics. Cross these two F1's, and I'll get F2's. Keep doing this through F3's, F4's etc until you have a plant with the characteristics that your after.
So now I've got, let's say an F5, and its the plant I want. But as I understand it, the more you inbreed, the plants yield, potency, vigour etc are reduced.
Do I now cross the F5 female that I want with the original male parent plant? Does this stabilize? Increase vigour? Or just ruin everything you've just done?
Anyways, Im very new to the idea of breeding. Sounds fun, but I know I've got a lot to learn. But am I on the right track?
