Havest tips, please add your 2 cents!

I just pulled a bud off and checked the triclomes, they are about 40% honey colored, the rest are milky. I unplugged the lights today but I'll leave it another 3 days or so before chopping it off, that should give it enough time to turn 50% honey like you recommed. Also, the strain is white widdow crossed with maui wowie. And to those of you who say CLFs are BS, well, behold. The buds are no where near as dense as the stuff I've seen grown under HPS but I garuntee you this stuff is just as potent

cfls aren't garbage

When I harvested this last time, I didn't fuck with any of that three days in the dark shit. I just started pulling plants and trimming all the major fan leaves, then the buds went on lines for about a week. From there I went to jars, but it was too early, so I went back to paper bags until the stems were cracking(not quite snapping, but thats relative. When I think snap, I think *DRY*), now they're back in jars. Oh, and I waited until about 30% of the trichs were amber. The bud has a great sativa head buzz, the kind of creeper buzz that makes your head feel warm and fuzzy. Anyway, I left the lights on 12/12 while I was harvesting, since it took me a few days to get it all down, and I just kept watering with no nutes, and the buds seemed to do better for it. I noticed the fan leaves started to wither and die around the buds, and the buds themselves started to look like they were opening, like a flower does, but in a different way. Kind of hard to explain I guess, I'm no expert, so, sorry if this isnt making too much sense.. ANyway, by the time we were done, and it was all on lines, it all looked really great. It lost alot of its size on the lines, almost 60%, but it wa still moist, and thats when we pulled it and trimmed all the big stems, and then those buds are what went into bags, then jars. I was going to add pics, but my camera sucks, or else I just dont know how to use it. Every time I try to do a close up pic its very blurry...

damn digital cameras.

That's pretty much how I've been doing it untill now. This time I'm going to try the method mentioned above, 3 days in the dark, 3 days hanging and 3 days in a paper bag, then 2 months in canning jars

You asked above what the difference is between the carboard box method and the paper bag method. Time

Carboard lets it evaporate a little slower than a paper bag and keeps more fresh oxygen out. Makes it a bit smoother.

I'd wait longer if you want the most potent high. Don't even go dark until 75% amber and let it take as long as you can stand to dry and cure.

To those of you that put a fan on your drying buds... That makes them dry way too fast for my tastes. If you change to a slow dry with no fan you'll notice smoother smoke, if you change to drying in a paper bag even smoother, and so forth.

One guaranteed universal truth is the longer you let your bud take to dry the smoother it will be, and it will make it stonier. This is only limited by your risk of mold. If you are in an area that has a high risk of mold then don't use the cadboard box with wet plant material, only half wet or less.

Having smoke that is super stony is one thing but getting that stuff so smooth you never cough, no matter how huge of a bong hit you take is the icing on the cake and the difference between fantastic and holy fuck.

Thanks for the tips, its already been in the dark for 2.5 days now though. I'll try to find a shoebox or something I can dry it in after hanging it for 3 days instead of the paper bags. Also, I don't smoke, I vaporize, so the harshness dosn't factor in so much.

I've wondered that quite a bit, the only thing I can suggest is the buds look a little darker, here's post 3 day pictures, I just finished trimming it.

so far it seems to be doing great. I just moved them over to a paper bag lined with cardboard, so basically I should just leave them in a dry place and open them and shuffle them around once a day for how long? Also, I could leave the bar of a heat vent, or is it best to keep them cool? Like I can keep them in my upstaires closet (~72F) or in my basement (~65F) or on a heat vent, which is best? Also, when should I trim all those tiny leaves that are covered in crystals? I'll be making them into oil, I tried to trim them today but they are so wet its a pain, I'm thinking they will break off easier when dry. Any thoughts on this or any more suggestions? So far its turning out to be some dank looking bud
