Keep it simple. Most any potting soil except Super Soil brand. Get a bag of black, not red lava rock, and mix some of it with your soil for better drainage.
Shouldn't need much food till keiki's about 12 inches tall. Maxi-crop with out iron, or some kelp product thats organic and with no added minerals or fertilizers. Kelp is like baby food for plants ya know.
A 6-6-6, 8-8-8 fertilizer will be fine for veg when big enough, have some dolomite lime ready too. A little bit on top of soil at that time is beneficial.
A dose of 10-30-10 when starting to flower will get you a good bud set. And feed or fertilize with a 0-12+-12+, that is high phosphorus and high potassium.
And be ready for pest of the week as the seasons change. White flies, leaf miners, grasshoppers and fucking slugs! Caterpillars, ants, fungus gnats nematodes and more.
Slugs can destroy and kill a plant less than one month old. I use liquid slug bait or Corrys. The organic stuff, iron phosphate, is best used not for cannabis, it does not repel, as its meant to slowly kill the population over time. Corrys and deadline use metaldehyde that kills quick and repels slugs and snails. So if its outside all the time be aware of slugs!
As far as the other pests most just need spraying with water or rain. Less is more. More fertilizer in veg will bring more bugs to leafs as they smell the nitrogen and too much nitrogen actually makes the leaf less tough an easier to munch on. Too much ferts in soil can lead to pests making a home there.
I would foliar spray neem oil weekly after one month up to the third week of flower. Neem will keep bugs off. It also goes systemic and will give you residual control against powdery mildew.
Come harvest time look for the diamond back moths flying around those and others lay the budrot caterpillars. Sometimes you can find the eggs on underside of leaf and rub off. You can also pick the caterpillars off by hand. Not worth the risk spraying a few plants for caterpillars.
