Hawaii Lanai Grow

I'm pretty sure I could have pieced this together with other forums but I couldn't find much about Hawaii . I have a lanai (balcony) that doesn't get much direct sunlight but its still the Hawaiian sun, much stronger than mainland. I have a few bag seeds from a decent batch and want to just give it a shot before I order seeds and setup indoors or stay on the lanai. Does anyone think it will produce anything worth smoking or will I be wasting my time? Once I get a green light from everyone here I have a lot of other questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Aloha!

You need to give your plants as much direct sunlight as possible or grow indoors, or they wont produce much. And for the record, your shaded porch will not be stronger/better light than mainland sun.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Indoors it is then. Most likely gonna go with a grow tent if I don't move into a place with a fenced in yard. What's your thoughts on the grow tents? I'm thinking one of my obstacles out here will be maintaining the temp and not getting to hot. Was thinking led/cfl but I'm sure my yield will be better going hid setup. Thoughts?

Grow tents are cool if you have the funds for one. A good T5 veg/LED flower would be ideal for keeping temps down but LED's are a considerable investment ($1000+) and there's a lot of garbage LED's floating around the market place too, so do some serious research before you pull the plug on an LED.

Heat will be your main issue in a tent. You will need an inline fan or something to exhaust hot air from your light and suck cool air in. If you can do that efficiently enough, you may be able to avoid using an air conditioner, as well as a more expensive utility bill every month.

p.s. there is a Hawaii grower's thread in this same section and theres all kinds of growers there that can help answer you any specific questions.

I found a Hawaii thread but mostly for outdoor. I will most likely go HID so efficiency in temp control will be where the money will be spent. Thinking about going organic and only about 4 plants at a time. It's only for personal supply. Need a good seed combo with a purp thrown into maybe a northern lights/og kush growing in same space. You think that's a problem?
