Hay smell while curing?

I am trying to get rid of that hay smell that sometimes accompanies drying buds. I am following the curing process that I have read from many websites...hang upside down in a dark place for 2 weeks with lots of ventilation, when the stems start 2 "snap" when I bend them I take the plant down and trim fan leaves and place buds in a paper bag for a few days, opening a couple times a day for proper ventilation, finally placing them in a jar for 2 weeks opening the jar a couple times a day to vent....well I have nearly completed the entire process barring about 3 days and have a light hay smell that is not desirable...what can or should I do?

Also, I was wondering for future reference what would happen if I let the buds dry in a paper bag? Or even laid them out on some cardboard untill they are COMPLETELY dry skipping the jar process, would I still end up with a hay smell? The reason I ask is because before I put the buds in the jar they had no type of hay smell whatsoever.

Thanks for any help = )

how about leave them alone until their done. mary can often smell a little hay/alfalfay after a cut job, its the chlorophyl leaving or whateva drying out, the chronic will come. i have had a lot of "freinfds" or helpers fuck up a nice harvest by thinking somthing was wrong cause of the smell and that wouldnt have been a problem if the just left the shit in the dark and alone. so LEAVE IT ALONE!

Mine is really a mix of hay smell and dank?? At first the hay smell is overpowering and then if you smell close the dank starts to come out.

I had them in a box with almost direct fan on them for about 3 days, now they are in jars in the same cab...

I must be drying them too fast??

drying + curing are the most important and the most risk as you just spent all that time + money growing your ladys... when drying you were right to hang upside down in a dark ventilated space but the 2 week rule may vary . pay attention to when the buds are dry on the out side but the stalk can still be bent + twisted , not 'snap' . if they snap then the moisture is almost if not 'completely' left the plant.
then, when you are satisfied. cut the buds from the 'hung' plant into a GLASS air tight jiffy jar. i say glass as in 'my opinion' (and a little science) because paper will absorb the resin and THC and hold the nasty moisture. and plastic bags(or othher plastic containers) contain chemicals that react with the weed(dont kno how true).. BUT, now i have glass jars. Leave your buds in the air tight jars for no more than twelve hours. DO NOT GO OUT AND FORGET !!!! YOU WILL HAVE MOLD !!!! do not disturb your buds for these twelve hours , leave UN-openned in the dark. then open and lay out again to dry, untill the outside is dry(4-6hrs) then place back in the jar. repeat process up to 3 times till all required moisture is out. but not too dry, you still want the weed to be fresh with a little weight . you (well, i ) dont want weed that disintegrates to dust when you make a joint.
also i may add. Glass jars can be useful for storing 'cured' buds. when you look at the trichomes under a microscope or eye glass, then you notice then is not much if any change in your buds. i have weed stored like this for up to 30 days...

hope this can help somebody , but i will say there is no written 'right or wrong' way. if your happy with your finished product then smoke happy. this is only my opinion on what i have lernt.

I absolutely agree. Your patience will pay off in a big way.

because if you just 'leave' it, like anything when left alone is also called 'abandoned' . when you buy weed off the street then 99% of the time it is just 'left' to dry and if i'm risking going to jail over a plant then i want it to be the very best that it can be... and to get the ultimate taste and sensation out off bud is to cure and get all the sweetness and taste from the centre of the buds without letting the outside getting too dry and crispy .
hope this helps anybody .
Phaze .
P.S. The more you put in, the more you will get out.
Take care of the bottom (roots), and the top will sort itself out.
