HB's first run - 560W of Kessil LED, Organics, LST and SCROG

Hi RIU! I've been lurking here for a bit and have poked my head into a few threads. I wasn't originally going to post a journal for this run, but I figured why the hell not. Some basic details:

Grow medium - 50% FFHF 50% Super Soil (recipe found in these forums, with slight amendments) - Rice hulls instead of perlite. All granular mix. Fabric pots.

Lights: Veg - Started under just HOT5's, 75% blue 25% red, then added two Kessil 150s (Magenta) last week.

Strain: SFV OG - these plants came from a friend who had neglected a couple that got really really bushy. Unfortunately, they had a big thrip problem that I'm still clearing up. They were already somewhat established, and I wasn't as confident in my bending on this one yet. Two Purple OGs did not take well to the dunk and are barely holding on. Will probably just nurse them back to enough health to cut some clones off of it and recycle the soil.

First pics are the baby girls when I got my hands on them - 5/16

Transplanted them from 1G to 5G, I had originally intended on going into 10s, so I had 5's and 10's handy. Would have preferred to go into 7s, but seeing the condition of these, I didn't feel like buying another set of pots and will just tough this run out in 5s. Next run will be in 10s.

Hindsight - if I knew they were going to spend as much time as they are in veg, I probably could have put them into 10s. I'm about a week behind my ideal schedule.

Left them under 24 hour light and started bending.

First tea recipe included - EWC, Frass, Kelp meal, Fish Hydrolysate, P heavy guano, and Alfalfa meal and BSM. Cut 50% and soil drenched.

6/4 - Three days after last tea, top dressed with fresh EWC and a GRD/Neem mix. Been using an essential oil mix to reduce thrip issue. Still there, but diminishing daily. Due for another treatment today. Added 2 Kessil 150s on the side. More LST, and another tea of the same recipe as last, this time with N rich guano as well. Also light foilar feed. Preparing the flower room and tossing them in hopefully Saturday. Will be building the SCROG then as well.

Dropped them down to 18:6 schedule.

Clipped the stakes, lowered the light, and fed a tea at day 1 of Week 3 of flower. All side lights not yet hung, will finish in the next 24 hours. Some stretching due to varying heights of plants (some were acquired 10 days later than first batch), has been rectified since last picture taken. Will take a couple more tonight, which would be Day 6 of Week 3.

ANY AND ALL ADVICE/DISCUSSION IS WELCOME -

I didn't SCROG this time, as next run I'm changing the canopy size, running in 10G pots, and didn't feel like rebuilding it.

Sorry I didn't continue this journal. As it was my first run, I made a lot of mistakes, namely, nitrogen overload. Didn't cut my teas enough, topdressed with compost... I will say this, the end product was fantastic, but the yield was lacking. The POG was my favorite, it just cured and smoked so nice. The SFV was very stony. This run is already in much better shape, but I built two CXA3070 COB lights to add to the canopy. Here's how it's doing now, after a week and a half under the kessils after spending 4 weeks out of the solo cups under a T-5. These are some Grape Stomper OG, in 10G
How are you liking the kessils?

And that's a few days ago. I just added CO2 to the room, and they've really started to take off. I'll be hanging the COB bars tomorrow and flipping to flower.

Look's good to me bro. I am probably going to pick up a few kessil's to supplement the LED I already have. I got a 400w off of amazon, nothing to fancy. Trying to decide between the magenta and the red spectrum for the flower room. Any thoughts?

I'm a noob, with only a few harvest under my belt. So feel free to disregard my input, but.....I think you should veg another week or so. Fill in some more of that scrog dude. I'm still working on my technique, and my setup is nowhere as nice as ur's. I just drape the netting over the plant, a zip tie here, a zip tie there. Pretty bummy, but it has helped me get some nice little bushes, and an almost even canopy.

Some of these new nodes are going to take off and fill up a bunch of space. I've been led to believe that this Grape Stomper OG is a heavy yielder. I let it go through the weekend (mainly because I wasn't home or sober enough to do what I needed to do this particular weekend.) They're really liking the CO2, and it's helped me stabilize temps being in MI and using LED. That pic was taken before CO2. I've been weaving them around the netting the past couple of days. I will worry about getting bigger bushes on future runs, but I just need to pump this one out so I can get another batch in this room by mid Jan.

Feeding with a sprouted seed tea/AACT mix on Tuesday, the day after flip. Hoping to get some explosive growth as I flip to get to the second layer of trellis that I built framework for.

Is HPS your main source of light? If so, I'd say go with the Magenta, as they're going to give you more of a blue spike that you're lacking. If you're using something that's a cooler white like an induction fixture or something, go with the Reds.

Lights are hung on the mover! Just fed a SST + Frass/Light EWC/Kelp tea, flipping to 12/12 for one week before scaling back to 13/10 the next week, and 14/10 for the next 6 with phytochrome manipulation (deep red)

The light I already have is a 400w LED. Nothing to fancy, but it's working well so far. I got the magenta kessil on the way. I probably get a red one in few weeks. Ur grow is looking nice dude.

Thanks! This is a testing environment for future projects, I hope to mostly phase out the Kessils in bigger rooms, but I like the idea of the blurple supplement to a Warm White.

Flipped to flower last night, let the show begin!

Final specs in the room:
  1. (2) ~140W CXA 3070 AD BIN driven at 1.05mA
  2. (4) Kessil M350 Magenta (90W per)
  3. (6) Kessil 150H Magenta (35W per)
  4. (6) Grape Stomper OG in 10G Smart Pot
  5. FFOF/HF mix soil with one in my own mix of SS
