Heat mat

When I watered my plants earlier I accidentally left my heat mat on for 12hrs..the plants are in a plastic tray on top of mat and are at 7 weeks into flower... I don't see any sign of heat stress bt do you think they will be affected? Thanks

They're dead now for sure.

Why are you using a heat mat on flowering plants? I never use a heat mat for anything.

I don't usually switch it on just in case it gets cold.. Had a few purple plants last time

If you just watered it should be fine, it probably just drank the water a bit faster and that's it.

Ok but why a heat mat instead of a heater? It's always cool in my basement grow room so I have a heater with a thermostat to kick in when the temp drops. The cement floor is always chilly so the pots sit on inch thick insulation slabs so the soil doesn't chill too much and the warmer the soil the more active the bio-herd is.

I can't see the heat mat hurting anything but it just seemed a little of an odd way to warm the plants.

Yeah I'm not expert on these things... My friend told me that a heat mat is good cheap way to warm plants and that heaters can be a bit ineffective in a tent when air is being expelled all the time

It'll keep the bottom of the pots a little warmer at least.

I use a temp/rh controller on my exhaust fan so it only comes on when either of those get too high. Really helps keep the temps and rh in a tight target zone. Speed controller too so at half speed it runs longer and the change isn't so fast so that helps keep swings down too.

If you can get your environment dialed in that's half the battle right there. The thin walls of a grow tent allow a lot of outside influence to temp changes so might be good to insulate them with blankets or something but that would be a PITA. Not needed if the room they're in is kept at a steady temp. My wife has been knitting up a storm lately so I could get her to knit me one.
