heat problem, please help!

ok heres the thing,,

i have 445watts of cfl in my cupboard which is doing o.k so far temps stay bang on 74

but... i have just bought a 400watt hps and put it in there instead of the cfl's as ive just started flowering
but now my temps are around 85

i have 2 pc fans as inlet and 2 larger pc fans as exhaust with a large fan circulating air in the cupboard,


can i put the cfl's back in and put the hps on a seperate timer so that it comes on for an hour and off for half an hour too cool down through out the 12/12 cycle to keep temps down whilst still getting the extra boost from the hps?

would this damage the ballast or bulb or be bad for the plants?

i can only cut holes in the same panel of the cupboard as my exhaust fans are (top)
so can really only add more exhaust or circulating fans

i wouldnt do the whole hour on hour off till you gets some good advice might fook the bulb/ballast not to sure maby for a few hours a day or try a 250w bulb with your cfl's although you are using the envirolites and you may need to change the bulb type for flowering as they come in blue and red specturm

how about making your out take bigger and using a desk fan attached to extract and you can stop light leaks with an old black tshirt cut to the shape fo the outtake fit over the whole

i do have different spectrum cfl's, 1 is a 300 watt dual spectrum which i used all through veg and the other is a 125 watt red spectrum,

once the bulb gets to full temperature the temp inside my box stays at 89/90

i have yest and sugar co2 in there which i read can allow the plants to cope with higher temperatures than usual,

will this be ok for a couple of days until i can get a bathroom/kitchen extractor fan?

DO NOT do the on off with your HPS! You need a more powerful exhaust fan and slightly larger ventilation! and make sure the air coming in is nice and cool too (65-73 degrees). your lucky 90 is as bad as it got.

it did actually reach 112 in there! but only for a reallly short time

im going to b & q today to try and get a bathroom/kitchen extractor fan but untill then i wil just leave the door open a bit,

I would recommend a "Can Fan RS-4". You can get them cheap used off craigslist or similar, and they are extremely durable and efficient. if it goes above 120 you will probably lose your plants... be careful.

there are some great inline fans in b&q i use it most days for stuff for my grows look into the white plastic inline fans there 100mm and the exact same fan as the hydroshop round the corner at half the price

is good for extraction imo and quite light proof but if you do get any light just throw a pice of black cloth over the end of the hose and throw an elastic band round it then put the cover on if you use it also you can attach a small carbon filter onto the piping too

Why don't you make a cool tube? I did this to help with the temps as my HPS is a 600w. Temps in my closet went from high 80's early 90's down to mid 70's. Your set-up is easy to make one with.
There are so many helpful threads on this forum and others for a DIY cooltube. It worked miracles for my grow. I have my 600w only about 20cm away from the top bud !!

only make the cool tube if the fans from bnq dont work as my mate runs a 400W hps in a lill cupboard and just has the hose attached to the end of his cheap reflector and gets great results from it
