Heating New Pipe Screens

Do you burn your pipe's screen before you first use it? Some times smoke comes off them when you heat them up brand new so I always use my key ring as a holder and use my lighter for a good 30 seconds on it.

Try it better safe then sorry, you'll never burn it hotter than 30 seconds of direct heat so any chemicals or oil/dirt on it would be gone.

if they are meant for smoking they should be clear of any residue/anything that would be released when heated O.O

a little burning oil won't hurt much........

I always burn my screens first because the initial heat blast will burn up a few microns of metal and carbonize it quick. Don't any of you remember burning metals over a Bunsen burner? They all produced colors because of the metals burning up. I know it's not much metal vapor we inhale on the first bowl but I rather cancel all of that. Just my 2 cents
