I was hoping for more than 50W. One could fit either 2x Vero 18's or Vero 29's @700mA each onto the ~4" x 4" HS without any adverse effects. Hmmm..

Hell the arctics are Suisse made, so they might last for years as well, just started using that particular brand, so I can't quite speak to their longevity.

There are a handful of reputable fans that will last a couple years at least with good maintenance.....:peace:

Have you heard anything about RoseWill fans? I just plucked a few from NE.
 
For passive cooling a CXA3070 @ 1.4A, with 100cm²/W, I get about 5200cm², which is a 14" piece of 3.945 profile, $46+ yikes!

AP, DW1 was my first RPG, played on Nintendo in 1989. It made a big impression on me as an 8 year old, along with Zelda. I still play the roms once in awhile.

bleh I was typing one thing and thinking another. 50w for active cooling with 30cm²/W. Passive cooling with 110cm²/w would displace 13.8 watts.

I cannot brain today I have the dumb

Damn. I was measuring the dimensions of my AA11P and comparing it to my *Crowns* and the highlighted USA HS, thinking passive was starting to make sense. Ehh.. the AA11P is looking more attractive than ever...

Are we doing this particular USA HS any justice if we don't consider using a fan like Supra brought up (~90mm)? It does add to the total cost but I just don't see the point of this profile without an aftermarket fan attached, as it's cost per inch is relatively high in comparison to the wattage it can passively handle (according to Supra's formula and numbers) ...

I was going to comment on Rosewill. Obviously they are a brand that is usually fairly priced. I have used a few Rosewill items because I ordered only from NewEgg back in the day [2003-ish :)] but I did run a Pentium D-Core 2.8 [Socket 775 though] with a Rosewill cooler for over 3 years. Never quit. The Dual core always got hot as shit because of the crappy Intel board I paired it with [like 90c Core Temps!] but it never gave up.

Good friend, at the time, essentially stole it, so who knows where it lives?
 
Yeah its by Joe Pleiman..but the "system" one comes up quicker.He has a bunch of out there tunes.
And yes I remember first getting it on lime wire and saying that's not Serj lol I miss lw for singles.

Haha I just now saw this. I first came across the series in 2001 (nine years old at the time) when my parents bought me the GameBoyColor and with it a copy of Dragon Warrior Monsters. Between DWM and Pokemon Yellow, I was PHASED as a young kid.

Ultimately DWM had more to offer in comparison to Pokemon, like the breeding between random monsters (I was the real monster) and the random maps that portals would transport you to. I was hoping they would port DWM 1&2 to the PlayStation in an english version so I could relive some nostalgia but I couldn't find anything.

I still own the original NES (I think it was a hand-down heirloom) and SNES (my first real console, Yoshi's Island, MegaManX, Donkey Kong Country, and of course Zelda being among my favorite titles). I may have to run down the street to the vintage game store and pick me up a copy of some DW (or Dragon Quest?).

I am runing the same heatsink from rapidled with two CXA3070 at 1.4A

i used the dril\taped holes for fastening the ideal cob holders, another benefit. no need to drill myself.

i use 2 120mm fans for active cooling, which is defenietly over kill.

without the fans runing the heatsink is warm to the tuch. i don't have anything to measure temps or light.

i used it to supplement HPS lights, and was happy with the results.

my grow is in a 4' x 8' secret jardin tent, (2x600w) and i think to replace each 600w with 16 CXA3070, one for each squre feet, runing at 1050 ma

maybe i will use less watt finaly, but it's still has to be 16 COBs on 4 bars


i plan to use 4 heatsinks\bars, 38" each of them.

i want to minimize mess, and to be able to look at the garden with clear view. so 16 indipendent hanged passive heatsinks is not an option

the 4 light bars will be of course the heatsinks themselves.

one option is the 3.945 HS, it has a nice base of 0.375' and long fins.

can be cooled with two 92 mm fans, should be more then enough.
can use thouse - less then a watt each

other options are the 3.500" or the 4.230. both with thick base and short finns, probably will have to use stronger fans.

does 110 cm2/w apply to all diodes? is this the correct calculation for Vero 10's as well or is it lower? For passive....

I was looking at the 3.9" Sink and 3 inches @ the 110 cm figure would give me about what I need to passively cool 1 Vero 10 5k @350 mA .....>10 watts....
, but damn that is still a lot of sink.....and I have size restraints, to fit a sink inside basically a 4.5 by 4.5" square, but slightly smaller would be more ideal.....

[378.23 * 3] / 110 = 10.3xx

Vero vf50 is 26.2 [9.3 watts].

I am fine with averaging more around vf50, vf25 seems slightly unreasonable with my size constraints......:peace:


I do have active cooling setup on a much smaller sink [from LED Supply] with a 40mm Adda fan, but passive would be much safer for the situation.....

@Abiqua Back in the day I used 150cm²/W but the LEDs were about 26% efficient. 110cm²/W should be good for LED running at 35-40% efficiency. I am running my CXAs at 48% efficiency minimum and I use about 95cm²/W to get heatsink temps of 27C, almost as good as active cooled performance. So if you are running the Vero 10s at 37% typical, you could use anything from 90-110cm² depending on your goals.
 
In my past orders from HeatsinkUSA, the charged a $5 cut fee but it was only applied to the order one time. I think as long as your cuts are across the profile (standard cuts) they only charge one fee :leaf: Good to know that we easily can cut them ourselves though.

Nice! I just called Rapid and unfortunately they discontinued that heatsink but he recommended this enclosure and said it would provide a bit more cooling http://www.rapidled.com/6-x-20-premium-heat-sink-and-enclosure/

if you can get from heatsink usa, you can have more options in terms of size and lenth

the heatsink i use from rapidled is very comfortable for making one lamp for small grow, it has the 'splash guard' thing that allow you to cover and protect the COBs when the lamp is not in use.


their new desin heatsink look like it was built for small 3 watt diods, look at the bottom of it. i think there isn't enough room for COB.

If HSUSA are providing machine work, i will use that service for sure.

they can drill and tap holes to feet M2.5 or M3.0 screws?

so we don't have to do that ourselves
