Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

hahaha love the airwalker hate, I literally had to stop visiting RIU for a while because of this idiot trashing every single thread in the LED section.

The ignore button *usually* works, until he starts fucking with people asking my advice.

It's nothing more than an ego trip for him, he has no good grow- pics OR advice- so he needs to validate himself by spewing all manner of nonsense here.

He has no idea of the suffering he causes thereby, and it's clear he doesn't care.

I'm pretty sure airtalker has nothing valuable to offer because he's never done any work to earn it.

To be clear, what I'm doing isn't hating; I'm leaving sign posts for those who come after and aren't sure who's giving good advice. The last thing I want is to get mixed up with this asshole's blatherings.

Stop giving BAD ADVICE, you fucking moron.

You've never done it so YOU DON'T KNOW. So stop acting like it!

Stop acting like you have answers to problems you've never encountered, fool!

Someone serious might actually believe your stupid self inflating bullshit and cost themselves a lot of money!

Is that clear enough for you, you chronically incompetent loudmouth?!
You guys just look for any reason to jump at me. I really dont get it. I never said "OH don't do it cause this blah blah blah.".
All I said was I THINK that this would happen. That is all. So again, have fun trashing me all you want, you too JIZZfactory.

I'd think by the time it gets to the end one, it'd be pretty Frickin hot. The last bar or few, might have issues. Just because it's absorbing so much heat from each individual bar before reaching the last 2 or 3 of your 8.
Tell me what's worth all the fucked up bullshit you just threw at me in that post? He asked for opinions and thoughts. Is it seriously so hard to understand that I could assume that by the time the cooled water goes through EIGHT FIXTURES that it might just be a TAD hot?

Anyone tried to fit 2 clu048 1212s on 1 140mm pin heatsink @ 700ma? Would they fit an would it stay cool enough passively?

I think I saw that done somewhere. I know the new area51's do that.

Shit is crazy. It's a HUGE ASS 180mm Pin sink though.
BUT is running them HARD for that space at 50watts each. So as far as heat, I think you'd be alright. As far as physical fit, I dunno. They're how big?

^^^ this guy has a massive superiority complex fyi. (just putting up some sign posts for everyone ;) )

Out of curiosity, what was suggested that may "cost someone a lot of money"? Maybe I missed something earlier in the thread?

For an actual answer though, you almost certainly wont need a manifold. You could build one, but increasing your flow rate would combat any potential heating issues as well. More important to know is now many watts each bar will be putting out and a rough cooling power of your radiator, as chances are, temps will not significantly rise from one end of the light system to the other.

That's dope I was thinking the heat would be fine but idk about optics fitting. It seems to me it would be a pretty cheap awesome build I read somewhere on here the clu048 gets like 170lm/w at 700ma and with 2 per heatsink your cutting cost quite a bit vs a 3590 build with the same efficiency

For sure. I know some of those clus are fifty something volts. So you just gotta see what total wattage will be and see if it's do able.

With that big ass 180mm you could probably fit like 4 1212s at 500ma haha

So I came up with this idea to do a water cooled heat sink for a 5 cob lite, but instead of 5 separate water blocks which are spendy and need too many connections (which = potential leaks), I decided to use a single 48" piece of 2" x 6" extruded rectangular aluminium tube instead. My idea (not as original as I thought after doing some googling it, someone's always stealing my ideas before I think of them, lol) is to cut and taper each end to remove the corners and then weld it up with a 1/2" fip fitting at each end.

If it works, I'm thinking of making 7 more to fill my grow space, connect them together with either pex or vinyl tubing, which will go to a heat exchanger consisting of a used car radiator and a box fan set up outside the grow room. So question is, has anybody seen or had any xp with a similar design, and does this sound like it will work? Not sure what kind of flow rate I'll need, so I'll probably get a variable speed circulating pump, but any advice or critique is appreciated ;?)
I've been building this exact heat sink design for over a year. Have several of them running already.....

They work awesome. Heater hose for automotive married to pex . Infact I have them for sale right now and will build to suit any design u think of!!!!!!!

Good for whoever is in need! I'm relocating and need funds plus I'm Into building and production. I've got water blocks plus 2" square tubing designs of various sizes.

And here we have tool number two leaping to the defense of idiot number one.

Tell us about your extensive experience of *really* doing it, or quit cluttering up the chat of people who actually have.

How about instead of acting like youre so damn superior, answer the question I asked. You have a tendency of selectively ignoring parts of posts.

How was Airwalkers logical conclusion that the water might get hot costing someone lots of money?

And as Ive stated before, liquid cooling isnt some fancy new thing, people have been doing it in their PCs for decades, so its not like youre some sort of fucking rocket scientist for applying it to lights...

BTW I have a custom water cooled micro build... so again, just answer the question of how airwalkers comment is "going to cost someone a lot of money"....

Its funny how you ignore people's questions then attack them. Are you going to claim you dont have a superiority complex when all signs point to yes? (Ignore that fucking rhetorical question and answer the god damn question I asked originally) Please and thank you.

I should say, I love your setup but typically have a strong disdain for how you conduct yourself on this forum.
