Hi all, has anyone tried the cheap eBay heatsinks such as https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminium-...rentrq:5a1778de16c0a4b7b7279c11ffe55460|iid:1. Are they worth a shot?

i havent tried em. essentially looks like a cpu cooler.

my 2c:
active cooling can dissipate a lot of heat. but if that fan goes out for whatever reason, all sorts of bad things can happen.

i'd try to go passive cooling if you can.

Why do you want a fan? They just die.

What cob's are you going to run? Does the heatsink have the proper mounting holes for the chip holders you will be using?

Vero29se 52v 3000k running at 1400 ma for now, even though they can handle up to 3600ma.

Those cheap heatsinks would have to be drilled and tapped. What would you guys use for heatsinks?

i've used these^ with vero29 @ 75w

ive used these^ with vero29 @ 100w

both work great and pre-drilled for cobs. the shipping on the alibaba ones was expensive, not really worth it. couldn't find any larger cob heatsinks in stock though.

At 1400ma you shouldn't have to bother with the fan. I would guess the amount of energy saved by cooling the chip to get it to run more efficient is likely offset by the energy required to run the fan.
