Hey y'all,
Got ma first ever grow, ever... so be gentle. The system is basically simple, mylar covered PC case with 1x CFL light and 2x Reservoirs with 1x Airstone in each and vent fan.
Strain is a Feminised Autoflowering something or other... Got 'em off my friend.
I germinated 1 seed and transplanted into rockwool and it's been pretty smooth sailing since then. I tried to germinate some others straight in the rockwool once I had a little seedling but to no avail... Not too much idea why, but I will germinate and transplant from now on if this grow is successful. Unless someone has a suggestion on how to make that method work.
Couple of bumps in the road. I somehow failed to spot that the reservoir had run dry early on which meant that she went about a day without water/nutes. The other problem is more recent and should be just visible in the pix. It's a slight yellowing of the leaves which looks like nute burn (but hey, I'm new to this!) as I have been going a bit overboard on the nutes. It could maybe be because the roots are a little cosy in quite a small reservoir. She is a thirsty girl at this stage, about 5 weeks old and flowering 1 week... Anyway, I changed the reservoir (for the first time, which is a sin - the water was a disgusting and thick green colour) and am using just plain water for a while... Also tried to weigh down a few branches getting close to the light, which almost snapped off one of them - but I'm not majorly concerned with that at this stage as I can comfortably hold my hand on the light.
As for variables, I did some research on the FIM technique and did it twice, once when she was very young (about 2-3 weeks) and another time a few weeks later... It seems to have worked okay, I did it because of limited space and also as I had only one baby... I also pruned some of the leaves blocking bud sites, mainly deformed leftovers from the FIM'ing. Just to mention the light schedule, I have tinkered a little bit... Started 18/6 then went to 20/4 and also 12/12... I'm going back to 20/4 tonight and having a night for day schedule just because the temperature difference will be a little more stable.
Anyway, that's about all the info I can think to mention. Questions would be cool. I'm going to flush for a week with no nutes I think, and perhaps do the day or two of darkness before I'm looking to harvest in about 3 weeks, and am thinking I will water-cure about half of it, just for kicks. No idea how much I might harvest, but frankly anything would make me happy this first grow. I'm just looking to kick back and not tamper too much now, the waiting game...
I'd be interested peoples opinion on what I could do next time. I'm hoping to do 2 plants next. I'm also thinking I'll get more/better airstones, bigger reservoirs (blacked out) and maybe even a better pump... Perhaps wise, because I think a full house of 4 in there would struggle on the current set-up. Aside from that, I don't think I'll do so much different.
Big thanks to everyone here, couldn't have done it without you. Oh yeah, and a special message to Roseman - I fucking love you!
Peace, love, empathy...
