Help designing DIY Volksgarden

Seems like a little exaggeration haha, but its okay your right it will be by no means easy, but I'm fairly certain I'll be able to pull it off by myself doing all the work within my own house and not needing all the rediculous things your talking about lol. Unless of course you were referring to the 8' swimming pool idea which was just a joke lol but would be awesome to see. But as I said before, any ideas for the wheel? Preferably something with about a 4' diameter and 2' wide and sturdy.

Actually, you probably WILL need most of the stuff being mentioned. From an engineering perspective, this is not a simple thing to build. Every joint, every angle, will have to be precise or else you may end up with something that turns then gets caught on itself like halfway through rotation.

Looks easier than it really is - that's guaranteed. That's how it almost always is with anything with more than two or three parts.

I'll say again that I realise it wont be easy but I'll also argue that instead people tend to make things out to be more complex then they need to be (you need to look no further than this site itself as an example of that soooooooo much information and misinformation about what is essentially just growing a plant) Have you gone to the site and looked at the different configurations of it? It really would be alot simpler than you are suggesting, the frame itself isn't even necessary, you could build it out of wood in a DIY configuration. The 2 important things are that the driving wheels are lined up balanced and level so the main wheel remains level, and the reservoir is placed at a height where the rockwool will just dip into it.

Don't listen to the haters, I know you can do it. Anyone could if they wanted too bad enough.

If you do build it I would suggest you use it quietly on your own without posting about it until you have an impressive yield you can show pictures of that you are truly happy with. It'll save you about two months of arguing for no reason.

Thanks man, yeah I'm pretty sure I'll be able to pull it off, I just need to figure out this wheel thing its got me stumped, I've done a little bit of wood working in the past and if I can't find anything else I think I could build one but that would be a little more complex than anything I've done in the past so it would be kind of an endeavor in itself.

I wouldn't do wood. Well, unless it's something mold and mildew resistant, because if it gets wet eventually you will start getting fungus on it. A good cedar wheel would work, and for that, hell, just find some old cedar cask ends

Or, another thing that's usually fairly resistant to mold and mildew - cable spools. Hell, actually a modified cable spool could almost serve as your entire system carriage, all you'd need from there is a motor for rotation and a drive and light!
