That's a load of BS someone's fed you!! A dual spectrum HPS is absolutely fine in a digi ballast.
You can even use MH in a digital ballast without any problems.
Once you select your Wattage output and set it with your bulb, it does no less damage than with a digi ballast or a magnetic ballast.
You can get 2 grows out of them very easily. It's just my choice to change bulbs.
The bulb you're speaking of is nothing more than marketing hype. There is ZERO difference in-between them and other bulbs like Powerplant or Sunmaster. ZERO!!!!
Constant switching between settings will ALWAYS shorten the life span of your bulb and / or ballast.
