So I'm thinking about starting to grow mushrooms. I'm pretty sure I have the majority of it down. Other than the part where it starts talking about "flushed" do you actually flush the cakes.. Or do you harvest them and more grow?? Or what..

lol if you grow mj its confusing. All you do to "flush" the cakes is put the cake back under the light. Some choose to recase in a very thin layer of substrate but it is not needed really. you can get many flushes from one cake but the first is always the best and sometimes if you do too many flushes you get fucked up shrooms that are like 1.5 oz each but not really all that potent. goodluck and remember... if your gonna colonize, sterilize....when in doubt.. throw it out (if you see infection eliminate it or you may compromise your whole project).

a "flush" is the production of mushrooms. When the first harvest is finished, take the cakes and throw them in some spring water for about 24 hours and put them back in the terrarium or whatever and get another "flush." Contrary to what that guy says, the second and third flushes are usually the best ones and do about 4 flushes, tops. I read in a book the other day that the fourth flush was always the most potent. Thats what the book says, not me! Dunk the cakes for 24 hours when you first birth them and roll them in vermiculite and spray the cakes lightly. You dont roll again after the next dunks.

Also, you dont have anything down! Doing it is alot different than reading about it. Good luck ;)

Oh no, and you think you got the growing process down!

A flush basically means like one harvest or set of mushrooms that pin. Once the flush or harvest is complete... usually when the cap breaks/unveils from the stem you pick them. Thereafter, you can redunk in water for another 12 hours to hydrate the cakes, which may produce more or bigger mushrooms. I'd say read up a lot more before going head first into the project!
