So.. my boyfriend and I decided that we want to start growing one or two plants and have them hidden away in our unused room in the basement.. but all of the how-to's that we've read are for people who want to grow a lot of plants..

Can anyone size down the instructions for me??

You will want to enclose them in a closet, cabinet, two rubbermaid storage containers stacked on top of each other, etc.

For lighting you can go with a 150 or 250 watt HPS system, or compact fluorescent light bulbs. If you go HPS, you can order online from htgsupply.com or find it on ebay. For CFLs you can get them at walmart or the hardware store. The correct bulbs will be warm white (2700k) for flowering, with maybe a few daylight (6500k) thrown in for the vegetative stage. You want to get the highest wattage you can find, which will probably be 42watts if you are looking at walmart. Around 6 of these would be the minimum to grow two plants, more would be preferable.

Line your cabinet/grow room with mylar, paint it with flat white paint, or use tinfoil if you're ghetto (like me).

You will want a good supply of fresh air. Use a fan inside your box to circulate air, and a bathroom or pc fan to exhaust the hot air.

That should get you started, do some searches to find grows like this, the CFL growing forum would be a great place to start.

Go to youtube and watch a documentary called "Grow Dutch", I think its 2 or 3 parts but its pretty much everything you need to know wrapped into a very informative and visual appealing little video.
