Plus think of how close our ladies get under an air cooled 600 hood? Ive had the sticky chicks literally growing into the tube man!

I can too with my glass enclosed hoods but I recomend some distance for quality buds.
It depends on your reflector and many other variables but I keep at least 18". The buds grow larger healthier and most importantly more potent.

have 4 of em, I havent noticed any bad effects from the flowers being less than 12 inches at times, then again i have VERYGOOD top and bottom airflow in my gardens!

Definitely the ventilation is a huge factor. And those tubes would remove more heat than my blockbusters but also have a little less intensity. So for all I know my friend 12" is perfect in your garden.
It was just a caution as there was definitely a learning curve and I ended up at 18" in my tent and now in an open room but with 2 of them.

wish every mich farmer i met was as nice as you........ran into one who'd moved to colorado awhile back after i helped him achieve a few successful gardens with t-5's.......apprently now he is a "master" just by living in colorado lmao! my my my.

Thanks. It's good that we all help each other.
And maybe we all go through that stage when our first grows are successful. After 3 years I just hope I can keep improving. It just started to get really good.

I'll actually answer your post.
TENTS
It might do you well down the road to actually spend the cash on a quality tent over a cheapie....The 2 top quality ones last longer = Gorilla and the secret Jardin.....The parts used to make these last longer then many others.
While tents are able to go up and down to be "portable". Over time the plastic coating on them get brittle and crack or peal away when moved around much. The longer they stay in one place - the longer they last! IF, your NOT going to move the tent in it's lifetime. THEN an inexpencive brand can be a good choice.
SIZE considerations.
Think like this. How many plants do you want to run? How big? You mention SCROG and 4 plants in a 4x4. That's not enough room in my book! Done right, you could get that area filled with a single plant, easy! 2 plants would do it well also - denser coverage for those not as advanced.
4 plants and about 4' in height is the upper limit for running plants "naturally". In a 5x5, more plants fit, with better results.
Ever consider that down the road, you may want to "experiment" with hydro? Here's something to think about as SOG can kick ass in yields, for small area's.
If you get a 4x4. You can then run a 3x3 ebb table for future any hydro SOG style runs if you should so choose.
If you get a 5x5. you can run a 4x4 table!
LIGHTING considerations.
Yes, 600's are more efficient then 1K's. With that said, 1K's are more effective in a 4x4 footprint then a 600, and more so in a 5x5! Some may say that running 2 600's is better. It is but, your increasing the heat factor by 2! That is harder to control - period!
Don't get me wrong, as it can be done, but costs increase in equipment and cooling needs.
Nobody even brought up alternate lighting! How about COBB LEDs? CMH? Personally, low cost "blurple" LEDs are not a consideration in my book. They are just not as effective in bloom as they should be! Right now, those COBB's are the cutting edge in effective area lighting for growing. Low power use, low heat out put, and great spectral delivery!
These are the things you should be thinking about for your final choices.
That's my 2 cents.
