Hi everyone,

This is my first post on my second grow. My first grow was half coco/soil and was very successful but this time around I did pure coco with 25% perlite. My ph is at 6.0 and my EC is around 1400. On this particular plant I'm using a marshydro 300 eco that is about 25 inches from the top of the canopy. From what I read it seems like I'm having an iron deficiency but I'm not sure why that would be the case. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I mix my own N-P-K and calmag which worked fine on my first grow (I live in thailand and buying hydroponic nutrients is very difficult and very expensive). I feed them on a drip system for 2 minutes every two hours. Thanks for the reply.

How much run off you getting when you water? That coco looks dry in spots.

I get very minimal run off because I made sure it is the perfect amount of water, I can assure you that it doesn't have to do with over or under watering.

That coco is to dry. You should have 10% runoff everytime you feed. I think she is hungry. I may be wrong so maybe someone else will help as well.

I would make up nutrients feed your plants thoroughly. Do this by hand and then adjust your drip system.

My first shot at coco looked the same. I didnt precharge the coco with calmag.
Wound up moving them to dirt and they turned around immediately. Not telling you to give up, but growing in coco is not soil and rules need to be followed. Like watering to runoff, precharging the coco.
I probably will never try coco again. Simpler to just run a full hydro setup imo.

Thanks for the input. I didnt precharge( to be honest this is the first I've heard of it). The half coco half soil went perfectly but I'm still determined to figure this coco coir out. Thanks for sharing your experience and taking the time to reply.

You are not suffering from an iron deficiency...but what you are suffering from has been with this plant since the start.

You mentioned you make your own nutrients. What is the make up...in other words, what is your NPK? What micro nutrients are you providing and more specifically what are you doing to mitigate Ca and Mg? This is where I'd start.

You could stand to run your pH closer to 5.8, but your pH of 6.0 is not the problem here (unless you're grossly off on what a pH of 6.0 actually is).

I mix these at a 3-1-2 ratio. For cal mag I use magnesium sulfate and calcium nitrate. I'm sure I did something wrong from the start, just dont know exactly what that thing is.

Runoff with coco is not really a watering issue...more a requirement. Your idea of feeding with no runoff is part of your problem. Plus I bet you are feeding too high and locking things out.

Flush and lower nutes is what I would do. And is that 1400 ppm because I do know your EC isn't that high...and in the future...water to 20% runoff unless you think you are smarter then every other coco grower on the forum.

You can not use only the major nutrients NPK in hydro without minor nutrients. Further running 1400 PPM is far to many of the major nutrients.

You are missing iron, copper, manganese etc... Either transplant to soil and continue mixing your own nutrients or move to a hydroponic formula that contains all the micronutrients you need.

I run 50/50 coco/xlg perlite and use 3 part General Hydroponics Flora Series according to their drain to waste chart. You can grow good plants in either.

Here are mine a couple weeks or so ago, Coco/Perlite with GH Flora Series.

I don't think I'm smarter and its definitely 1400 ec. I'll start turning up the water again. Thanks.
