Going by Gavita Research... Not mine, nor my opinion.
The Gavita 1700e is 1700umol, and 645w.
Gavita says this light is a direct replacement for the the most powerful SE HID, and is made for a 4 x 4 area, replaces a 1000w Hortilux HPS at 1600umol.
The Hortilux 1000w is also made to cover a 4 x 4 are, and has been advertised as such for more than 20 years.
Ok, so in that respect the 645w Gavita is 40.3w Sq/Ft. And one has to use the best diodes. Generally considered Samsung 301B-H, and Red/Far Red Osram.
The Phillips Greenpower is 630w, and 1800umol, and is from what I know, the most powerful/efficient LED made, but they only sell in lots of 40, for $32,000.
Best SE HID one needs 62.5w Sq/Ft.
So going by that for OPTIMAL,,,,,,,, you need at least 363w at the wall of the best LED.... 400 is better.
All kinds of stuff "Works" it just extends veg times, plants metabolism are slower, production suffers.
The sun is 125w sq/ft minimum on a sunny day at Noon, the equator. Add in high altitude. Also heavy duty UVA/B

Right, pretty decent they appear. Can't really speak on something till I hold it n use it but seams all there. Could use some diffused conformal coating or shielding. Timer option for UVA but still hella tempting for the price right.I just found those. They look pretty "full-optional" for the price.

Just for frame of reference, this was one of my 3x3 grows using a 260w HLG V2 kit (kush from seed)
Spread was more of my issue than output which I corrected by adding some strips for my next grow

So after some more thinking and debating I decided to pickup a pair of QB96's and a 300W driver running at 2800mA, which will drive each QB at 150W. I'll just have to figure out how to rig them, I'd like to mount the driver and hang each each qb separately.

I would ask for the covers. Those are awesome lil light engines. If he's in a tent, one pair is all he needs unless he ran the 4 @ 1/2 power.
One pair covers a 3x4 pretty good.

I thought about that but I'll be using approx half the space just for vegging so I figure i can keep the fixtures a little higher, one over the younger vegging plants and one focused closer over the flowering plants as I rotate them. I'll see how this stacks up and will consider adding more down the road to lower that hang height if I need to.
That's what I was thinking. Just balancing the costs at the moment. I know it would be a bit more efficient long term and able to run the lights lower if I did 3 or 4.

Oh I see. Is that just splash protection or does it function as a lens? If it's just for extra protectiveness i think I'm ok, I'm very careful with my equipment.

It's designed to be a protective cover. Yet I found something much more useful for it. Not all agree with me on my intended use for them (next grow) over a 5% par # reduction they refuse to try it.
You may have noticed some growers have a harder time keeping upper leaves from getting pale, when clustered, raw diodes are above.. Not all but a chunk of growers, myself being one of them.
So One of the covers started to fade & that one was the easiest to grow under. Diffused.
If you were able to get a set from Stephen then you'll at least have the opportunity to see for yourself if by any chance you so choose. No harm no foul n trying something that could possibly lead to up to easier growing with happier plants at higher OooohMoles. Adding up to good things n less headaches.
Mine are lumiLeds I think. Not many had anti-sulferization coating like the 301h at the time & even that is allot less then I personally require for diode protection.
Just my 2 pennies in a big ole pott. Good luck! I like the 96's. Lost my personal pics recently. Also a pretty decent thread so unfortunately I don't have many flowering pics to show. If you were interested in seeing them in action & all details, There's a grower named GroGor or something close to that who had a good thread here with detailed insight to these units. He goes over everything. Good read including optimal spacing, distance, mapping, ect...
Here's what they're doing now. Kind've slipped up already & some plants are looking hungry ontop. Had i wet-sanded these prior to create minor diffusion then I would've had more wiggle room.
Good choice though. HLG Is good Peeps who make a fine product. Broke my own records with these babies hitting 24 oz in a 5 gall bucket a few times.

I personally have the QB 96 ELITE V2 paired with a 240-54A driver in a 3x3. I personally can't run them at full tilt boogie. When all they way up, I tend to have more problems. I just finished my third grow with them. One thing I can say about the QB 96's is that most of the people commenting about them hasn't ran them. Most people are going off data sheet which does have merit but from running them I would say 300w is over kill in a tent. Maybe if you had more overhead but that defeats the purpose. What ever light you buy trust and believe before you finish your first cycle it'll be a new a more efficient light out. The QB 96's is more versatile. You can run them soft,mid range,or high. You can build them as a modular setup or as a fixture. You can push over 200w from one light. With the SSTX heat sink you can push 200w and upgrade your heat sink you can push more. Overall I love them. I bought 20, because I had a bigger room and was going to run them HARD! I built a fixture but I like the modular setup better.
