Recently purchased 5x jacky white 5x de la haze and 5x nebula all from paradise seeds. I have limited space so would like 3- 3 1/2 feet max so I'm looking to LST them to keep the hieght down. Will be vegging for about 30 days. My ? Is wen should I start to start to lst and how long in to flower should lst. Also would keeping the under a metal halide during the strech keep them down a it? Any help would b much appreciated

I would fim and then start to lst them once they reach 8-9". You can continue to lst during flower, just keep bending the branches down and try and form a wide canopy under the light.

i am growing 2 greenhouse seeds thai plants. the genetics on them is almost 100% sativa. i started to lst my at around 3 weeks when they were about 6" tall. i am now 7 weeks into flowering. you can see my plants are now still under 2 feet tall. i think my 10000 kelvin lights during veg kept them short and stocky. i have a mix of lighting temperatures in my tent and i am guessing that is why i didn't have a bunch of stretch.

Cool was that 3weeks in to veg or 3 weeks in to flower? How many shoots did u end up with. I was thinkin of keeping them under a metal halide while there streching to keep em down. Du think that will help

sorry. 3 weeks from seed(in veg). i am growing under t5's and cfl's and i don't have any experience with mh. i have read that the uv light spectrum keeps the plants smaller and more compact. i think mh has a uv component. i have also read that many people recommend a broader spectrum during flower than just the traditional bloom spectrum. i keep my plants pretty short because i grow in what is supposed to be a mothers tent for cloning and it is only 4 feet tall. with my lights and carbon filter that limits my plants to probably 3 feet at most (including the 3 gallon felt pots i grow in)but i have yet to get them even to that. i have gotten 4 plus ounces from each of my 2 grows so i am not a power grower. i am shooting for more this grow as i am going to resist the temptation to harvest them too early. good luck.

as the skunkd0c mentioned, some seed suppliers do recommend 12/12 lighting for their sativa dominant seeds. i have read that the stretch happens because the plants are trying to reach towards the light quicker since they were used to 24 hours of light.

You could consider starting them on 12/12
this will keep them shorter

Thanks dudes. Not sure if that will work for me. I got a small veg area that's adequate for 30 small plants vegging in small pots for 30 days. I transfer them to bigger pots and a bigger flowering rooms after that. With the cycles the flowering r taken up

you would treat them the same, in the veg area
you give them 12/12 under your white type lights
as they grow you can transplant them to your bigger pots and larger area
you might be surprised many sativa strains could still reach 4ft tall +
on 12/12 from seed, little indica could finish just over 1ft

you should also be able to remove males
within the 30 days you would normally veg them for
more likely around the 20 day mark you should be able to sex the plants
at this time they will still be under 1ft tall the stretch will come in the next few weeks as the buds develop
the first few weeks on 12/12 from seed will be veg growth until the plant is sexually mature

there feminised. Be a bit of a tight sqeeze in a 1.2x1.2 meter tent lol. Does the metal halide make much of a difference to them streching. Usually switch to hps at the the switch wondering weather keeping them under the MH will keep them down

Yeh it helps a bit to keep them under the MH until you see little buds 2-3 weeks
you can bend them over or top them best to get it done before the colas build themselves imo
they will reach their final height at around 4 weeks of flower
still some of the colas will build buds upwards and could grow more
perhaps you would rather wait until you see what phenotypes you have before you start bending them some maybe not be so big
also consider reducing your veg time if you are not comfortable with 12/12 from seed
i find 20 days of veg is enough time to produce plants that can yield 3 -16 oz depending on pheno/strain
