anytime after the fourth node/ as many as you can fit in before the end of flowering, although i and many others stop topping when the main stem starts growing pistils

it does increase it but lots of other things can help too.

the pistils are at the end of the growth tip so technically there's nothing on top on them unless it's a leaf from another branch. so, no, you're not going to be touching any leaves.

no, the light is absorbed by the green part of the plants, not the pistils. makes absolutely no difference if they happened to be covered by an adjacent leaf.
