HELP PLEASE- DWC and low pressure aeroponic totes

Hi guys,

I'm building a low pressure aeroponics system using a 145 litre tote. I would like to grow 4 plants, in a scrog grow. Please could my peers help out with some advice?

1. What size netpot would you recommend? Will 3 inch pots be large enough?

2. Must the water level be touching the bottom of the netpots, or will the intermittent spray protect the roots?

3. Do supplements like liquid oxygen by growth technology make DWC more forgiving?

4. Neoprene or clay pellets? What is best for holding the plant in place in the netpot?

5. I currently grow organically in soil. Is it simply easier to grow with man made nutrients to avoid line and sprayers clogging, etc...

This is much appreciated, as always guys !!

Happy growing.

I would use 6"

I always keep water roughly at bottom but up to half sometimes

3. Do supplements like liquid oxygen by growth technology make DWC more forgiving?
With adequate aeration, there is no need

4. Neoprene or clay pellets? What is best for holding the plant in place in the netpot?
I prefer expanded clay pellets for sure

Definitely have it right with man made. Good thinking!

This is much appreciated, as always guys !!

I hope this helps. I have been using dwc for several years now :leaf:

I like 8 inch pots

I let the water touch the bottom at all times

Nope short lived just have a good air pump figure 10 Watts per site

Hydroton or hydrocorn is better especially for stability

Sprayers always clog regardless stick with dwc or rdwc for better luck.

Sprayers only clog when using coarse nutrient, or too high ppm/EC. A pre-filter could be employed

3-6" net pots is adequate. I use 3 which allows me to start seedlings/clones then transfer the whole thing into my finishing totes

In my F & D, I use a separate pump to aerate, but should not be necessary in lp aero. BTW, I will e running my lp pump 1 minute on/~ 3 minutes off. This does a couple things, doesn't soak the roots, and aerates the solution

The best medium I have found is polished ornamental stones from Dollar Store, inert, easy to remove, clean and reuse over and over, after harvest

Hey, that's Gold PetFlora, thank you very much. Was hoping 3" would be ok, as tote lid is a funny shape (pls see pic).

My timers only go down to 15 minute intervals, so I could run the sprayers 15 on and 15 off. Would that be ok, or shall I buy a digital timer?

Happy growing!!

So are you doing a dwc grow and an aero box?

Well, that's what I meant by DWC. I assume the roots travel through the misted/sprayed air, and into the water sump.

I go with dwc over the aero setup. Too many root zone temp and air problems in those aeros for me, even tried a dual tote with external water pump and got root rot.

Well it's been fun to put together, but I can guarantee success with organics and soil, but this sounds risky with no more room for a backup plan !! Hmmm.....

Cheers guys. Better learn as much as possible first.

Happy growing.

You'll be fine. Give it a go and who knows you could love it. At the least you'll have awesome cloners and stuff. Who knows it's all down to what tickles your fancy

That's true Smokey.

I'll have to try it, just for the experience, and I can use it for cuttings (clones in UK), and growing other things if necessary !!

Wish me luck. Haha

15/15 is bad for aero as it over wets/soaks the roots

The timer doesn't have to be digitall, but have separate on/off settings
