Help requested for simple setup

Hi, 1st time poster here...
Pretty confused in what seems to be a hotly debated subject! Also, things seem to change by the week to add to the confusion..

Seeking some advice on what you guys would buy under the following circumstances:
* 2x2x5 tent
* Scrog of 3 or 4 plants
* LEDs that are either passively cooled or simple fan/heatsink
* i have an ok electronics background and enjoy DIY
* cheap, hobby, non-commercial purpose so it doesn't have to be the most efficient setup ever

Seeking suggestions for:
* models?
* ratio of color spectra (to see me through both veg and flower)
* suitable drivers
* should I run separate channels for veg and flower?

@CobKits - you have a great website, would be interested in your input :)

Thanks very much in advance

4x citi 1212 on 120mm heatsinks and a hlg-185-c1400b driver

youd be dimming in that space to probably 35W a cob, but would give you room to expand later

3000k 80 or 3500k 80 would do both veg and flower great for ya

Thanks very much CobKits. I thought that the 5000k to 6000k temperatures were better for veg or is that outmoded thinking / doesn't apply to LEDS? Is there any reference you might be able to point me to?
Cheers

Have you considered https://chilledgrowlights.com/our-p...iy-led-grow-light-single-module-assembly-only
Two 90w boards would do your 2x2 proud. I have three 90w boards in a 2x4 and they are smoking worth it.

Very nice - hadn't seen those, thanks for the link

It depends on how much you are willing to pay.
With @CobKits setup you can probably get away with ~150-170 bucks.
You can also take a Quantumboard 150w kit for the same price
or you choose 8 2ft. Samsung or Bridgelux strips and a matching driver for only 100-130$.

With led's it's not neccessary to choose high kelvin because a 3000-3500k LED offers enough blue(~10%) for tight nodial spacings und good branching.

Ah... I get it, thanks very much. Easier for an amateur like me than worrying about all the different wavelengths etc!

@CobKits unfortunately the heavy & bulky heatsinks blow out the cost hugely when shipping to australia, I might see if I can source those locally. But thanks again for the tip.

Vitally, ChilledLed ships his boards bare no heat sinks with USPS/UPS/etc for cheap. I mounted boards on my own heat sinks I had laying around.

Would this advice also apply to the bridgelux EBs?

You can get EB series strips for instance from digikey.com or arrow.com and what makes them a good option, the strips only needs a cheap aluminum sheet or profile.
These massive round heatsinks are pricey today but Marc from cutter.com offers COB kits to a very reasonable price similar to cobkits. And he has a new very efficient and interesting board in the pipeline which is a mix between quantum- and chlilLed-boards. Should be available very soon!
