We arent fucking Facebook. I know this has been said a million times but if you want likes go to Facebook. Honestly we already have had and are to have, an affirmation system. No need for two.
I will never fuck Facebook; aieee! As for two affirmation systems ... currently (imo) we have none. The Rep system isn't about affirmation, and I palm my face when I see suggestions to use Rep for "likes". cnWe arent fucking Facebook. So HOW isn't that agreeing with the post?! If you want to share that you like it so bad with the rest of the forum you're not only an attention seeker and should be able to just post that you like it and why, but you shouldnt be trying to burden the forum's hardware with you appreciation for what you found but just the opposite. x) Meh.Agreed
I feel rep and likes are pretty different. Rep in my mind = respect. I respect what you did, or said, or the pics you showed me...
...But I can like pretty much anything. If you post a silly picture of a cat wearing a sombrero I might like it and want to share that I like it but I don't necessarily respect you for posting a cat in a sombrero. Not to mention you can only rep someone every now and then, and I tend to like what the same people say over and over.
What? I said I was agreeing with CN... A like burdens the hardware much less than a post. I'm confused to the rest of the post - I'm seeking attention if I want to let someone know I like their post, but I'm not looking for attention when I post in regard to their post nor if I give someone rep?So HOW isn't that agreeing with the post?! I imagine that argument can be spun both ways. The fait-accompli pragmatists will say "the Rep system is the de facto Like system, and by goodness you'll like it!" To me that's a bit too much like a parental "because I say so" approach. The milder argument is that Rep "will do".Ya. It is. You're smart. Seeing you post in other subforums, even here in toke n talk, that much is obvious. So explain how it isn't, and Im sure I'll be dissuaded to that opinion.
I wasnt talking about Neers post but the would be post that would be Rep'd. Hard to explain your misinterpretation. x)What? I said I was agreeing with CN...
You are, perhaps, the one person I could never see as failing something. Carne might also fit in this category. Not attention, it's affirmations and I was trying to be funny. Looks like I failed.
Again.
You got me to look up: syntactic.I imagine that argument can be spun both ways. The fait-accompli pragmatists will say "the Rep system is the de facto Like system, and by goodness you'll like it!" The more aesthetically-inclined will remember the community dynamic the Like (plus Notification and "who liked this" postscript) added to the flow of multiple parallel conversations. And it's a bit more egalitarian than the "you'll eat what's on your plate, young man!" attitude under which we currently labor. In any case, I find pressing Rep into the service so well-performed by Likes to be quite unsatisfactory. It won't do, imo.
I am confused by a gsyntactic feature of your post. You say "dissuaded to". I would think if you said "dissuaded from", you would be stating contrarian intent, "if you back it I'll oppose it". But if you meant that I have a real chance of convincing you, then "persuaded to" would communicate that perhaps more positively. I have noticed that sometimes you enjoy a certain subtlety, so I hesitate to presume either way. cn
Ah... How is a like not necessarily agreeing with a post? It might be but I'm not going to respect someone for just agreeing with me. If someone states that smoked salmon is amazing I'll totally agree and in the context might like the post - but tons of people think smoked salmon is good and in my mind that doesn't deserve respect on its own.I wasnt talking about Neers post but the would be post that would be Rep'd. Hard to explain your misinterpretation. x)
Carne is cool isn't he.You are, perhaps, the one person I could never see as failing something. Carne might also fit in this category.
He's into politics. So no. But he is a truly, TRULY, good-natured person. So are you.Carne is cool isn't he.
And you got me to spot my typo. cnYou got me to look up: syntactic.

I can live wth that. But he is a truly, TRULY, good-natured person. So are you.
Thanks! I wandered over to the political section. Not my cup of tea, I like a civilized conversation even if its a different point of view from mine. I think I'm just going to hang out around here for a while. He's into politics. So no. But he is a truly, TRULY, good-natured person. So are you.
