Help ventilating my tent please!

The tent I will be using is 48x48x78"

One 6 " round
Two 3.5" round
Three 15x2.5" rectangular

Can I vent the tent and cool my 400w MH/HPS light with the same inline fan?

I was told to set up venting as follows Carbon Filter > Inline fan > Ducting> Cool Tube> Ducting> Exhaust and that the whole tent will be vented and the light cooled from that one fan? If I need a second fan what kind will I need and where will it be placed? Any diagrams would help, thanks.
 
yes. You won't encounter any heat issues with a 400w hps in a 96 cubic ft grow area with that fan. Your plan is sound, all you have to do is buy the equipment and we'll help you put it together.

Another thing that concerns me... I'm able to vent out of the tent, but not out of the room itself. I have centrail air ac/heat so I can control the temperature in my room pretty well. I can't really vent to an open window, winters are cold here and I don't suppose I could vent to the centrail air vent? Can I vent into the room and just keep good air circulation outside as well as inside the tent? the door can be kept open and clear air can be brought in from other parts of the house if needed, or would that not work?

Circulate into the room and keep an eye on temps. I would open all the doors in your living area that I can so that there is no radical fluctuation in temps anywhere in the house... live comfortable. If not then just keep the door to your grow area open so that the thermostat can level itself perfectly.
 
i cool a 600w with that fan no problems. try and find a way to get venting out of the room if at all posible even stick it running out a door and if you have guest's over throw it back into the room and close the door. your going to run into heat issues with it venting into the same room.


Edit: when i first started i vented into my cold air return ducting. be creative but try really hard to find a way to get the hot air out of your room with the tent.
 
if it was ever an issue cheap fix is a booster fan to give you a little better airflow in conjunction with your inline. $20
 
dd420, the deal is this: you can't get your tent any cooler than the temps outside the tent (where the intake comes from). If your tent temps are only a couple of degrees higher than the ambient temps where your intake comes from, you've got an effective exhaust setup.

Like you, I have no choice but to exhaust into the same room as the tent. My tent is in a closet; if the closet doors are closed, the temps in the closet go way up hence the tent gets too hot inside. If I keep the closet open, and point the exhaust outward into the room, my temps are manageable because the heat dissipates and the room which is cooled with A/C.

Again, the temp outside the tent is directly related to the temps inside the tent. Your inline fan isn't cooling off the tent necessarily, but rather exhausting warm air in exchange for what we hope is cooler air from the intake.

The idea behind a cooltube is to exhaust hot air created by the light as quickly as possible, before it affects the ambient tent temps.

That should answer your question.

Also, I've always read that it is more efficient to pull with an inline fan rather than push. If that's true, then the inline fan belongs at the opposite end of the filter.
 
Air circulation in a grow space is NOT only for heat. The primary reason for removing air from a space is to replenish the CO2 in the space. By venting into a room that a tent sits in, getting that air cooled by AC, then reusing the same air (by passive induction) you will be expecting your plants to use CO2 depleted air. NOT a good idea IMO. Either you need a CO2 ammendment in your tent or you need to vent somewhere else! You could end up with a perfect temp & humidity grow room with no CO2 in it! Things a plant NEEDS are water, nutrition, light and CO2, with a deficiency in any of these, your plant will not give you all it can. Peace W
 
Wait, let's not over think this. It's only a 400W. If you vent simply into the room it will get too hot in there after a few hours. Open the door. Problem solved. Your apt. is gonna heat up somewhat. Turn up the AC. Problem solved. A box fan on the floor in the hall blowing air into the room will help, too.
You'd be much better off if you can exhaust the heat out the window. Box fan on high would do the trick. Crack the door an inch or two and your fresh air problem is solved.
