Help with air pump

Have a question on what most people do to keep the noise down from there air pump. Running 8 buckets and upgraded my pump cause i was running 2 pumps. Well needless to say the new one is pretty loud. Any ideas and also what size pump would you normally need to run 8 buckets.

I'm the same as you ...did the same Oh the pain! ..lol

if the old pumps are quieter use them and keep the big one as a standby

or wrap the new pump in shitloads of polystyrene

but leave an inlet hole so the sucker(pun?) works ...lol

or
I have in the past relocated out to the dog kennel ...lol

but reduces the power, and annoys dog

i preferred to use more, smaller pumps vs one big one. what happens when your big one dies? with more pumps, you at least can add some T's and make do until it gets replaced.

this one is a bit pricey but quiet

2 airstones per pump. they are small but potent.

if you have the cash, buy a high dollar aquarium pump. not the diaphragm type.

Im trying to cut down on how many outlets im using, so thats why i got a big pump. Plus i plan on expanding 6 more buckets so i was trying to eliminate using more pumps for that purpose. I like my girls to get alot of o2, and i already had the manifold to support 14 girls. I think im just gonna locate the pump in the basement and run my lines from there, it should make my pump run cooler and not near the noise. Ill look into those aquarium pumps though i have another little project id like to try.

i'm forgetting right now what the good pumps are but maybe a piston vs diaphragm. whatever it was, they are worth the cash.

if you really want to try something, buy a really small water pump, run some tubing up the side of a bucket and a few elbows to point it back down and make a waterfall. way more effective than airstones. would be iinteresting to see a side by side bucket IMO.

I have sight tubes on my setup already, so it probably wouldnt take much to try it. I may do it on my next run, i have been trying to do as less is possible right now on this run, dont want to overwhelm myself, havnt been running hydro long.

If you do run your pumps from a location LOWER than your buckets/stones you will want to put check valves on EACH airline. If you lose power, the airlines tend to become siphons and will empty your buckets....ive seen it happen on our aquarium.
